There should be a command that allows the user to make previously split Structural Steel Beams back into 1 singular beam. Lets say I split a W12x26 ten times and continue working on a different part of the project. Now I get redlines from the Engineer that says I only needed to split the beam nine times. Well by this time I've done a bunch of other work and its probably days or weeks later so I can't undo the split. There should be a "Mend" command that rejoins the picked segments into 1 segment. This "Mend" command could also be used on detail lines, line based detail components, columns, and walls. Probably not on Toposolids though.  Please comment if there's already a way to do this.    Show More

One of the biggest sources of error in BIM is manual type naming. A simple yet powerful improvement would be a native Revit feature that allows users to auto-generate Type Names by concatenating selected parameters.   For example, a window type name could be built from: [Width] - [Height] - [Frame Material] → 1200 - 1500 - Alum   This would: Reduce manual errors Enforce consistent naming Make schedules and tags more reliable   Ideally, the Revit template could select 2–3 parameters in the Family Editor or Type Properties dialog, choose a separator, and have Revit build the name automatically.    BIM is only as good as the data we put in — and naming mistakes shouldn't compromise that.   Would love to hear if others see value in this or have workarounds without dynamo work arounds.  Show More

  Dear Autodesk Revit Development Team, I would like to suggest an enhancement for the Cut Profile tool. Currently, when we use the Cut Profile tool, the lines are drawn with only one default line style. However, in many real-world documentation scenarios, we need to adjust the line style of these profile cuts to match different drafting standards or graphical representations. Unfortunately, the Linework tool does not affect Cut Profile lines, and there is no way to change their style after creating them. Therefore, I strongly recommend adding an option to select a Line Style when drawing or editing a Cut Profile. This would provide more control and flexibility for producing clean, standard-compliant drawings. Thank you for considering this improvement for future versions of Revit. Many times, when modifying graphics in a view, I find myself with the following process: I want to modify graphic of a family (whose category I may or may not know). You have to select it, read its category in it's propieties, then enter VG, search for the category line (if the discipline filter is active), and sometimes search in subcategories (as in the case of room separators inside lines category). I think the workflow would be much better if, when selecting any element and accessing VG, its category was already highlighted.   The process would be: Select the element with the mouse. Hit VG. The VG window opens with the category line of the selected element already highlighted. If you have nothing selected, VG would open as always did It's a very simple idea that I think could save a lot of time and improve workflow in the long run. Show More

Give all families the option to be cuttable. It is a bit ridiculous we don't have the option to do this regardless of whether or not you'd normally do it for certain things such as furniture or MEP.   My drawings have plumbing fixtures that look out of place compared to the rest of the elements in the section. I would love to have more options for the V/G Overrides RVT Links so I can select which settings I want to use in my view template.  I work in a Structural Engineering firm and if I apply a view template to my framing plans it resets the architectural floor level to what is in the template.  Which means if I need to change the V/G settings, and want to apply it to all framing levels, I either have to apply the template and then go back to each view and change the linked view level, or  I make the V/G changes on each level.  Both are time consuming on large projects and could be trouble with new or infrequent users. If anyone has another way to handle this, I'm all ears! Show More

Current situation: Use first the command move and activate disjoin. Afterwards you can click on copy and then disjoin is active. Wish for future: Select the button disjoin at both commands (move / copy). It should be active only during that procedure - afterwards it should be deactivated again (because disjoin is "dangerous" in general).     Show More

We work as a contractor in major maintenance of existing residential buildings — replacing façades, window frames, roofs, and technical installations. As a team, we model the existing buildings in Revit, and the renovation plans are developed in a new phase.   It would save us a lot of time if we could work in groups and assign certain elements to a demolition phase, with those changes being automatically reflected across all groups. This would streamline coordination and prevent duplication of effort.   Additionally, rooms in Revit are phase-dependent. Is there a way to link rooms more flexibly to phases, so we can visualize them both in the existing and the new situation? This would help us manage spatial data across different project phases more effectively Show More

It would be interesting to have the possibility of joining the walls to make a 45 degree chamfer in plan. In engineering, there are many cases of tanks concrete where it is necessary to have a chamfer at the junction between the wall in plan. Show More

I tend to work on designing Waste/Vent and Water systems in large buildings and on more than one occasion I have come across an error where a large amount of pipes will suddenly acquire the incorrect system type, sometimes after revit has synced to the cloud model and I can no longer revert. This leads to an extremely tedious and long process of disconnecting pipe and dividing systems to make it have the correct system type. An example being, I am showing multiple lavatories with waste and vent connections in a bathroom, suddenly, all my piping becomes vent. I can't select the underground piping to change it back to sanitary because revit now considers it all one system. I have read solutions to simply not connect pipes together but the problem is that on a large project, if something is shifted, that's a lot of disconnected piping I now need to individually find and drag over as opposed to just moving a fixture with the attached piping.   So, I would like to suggest some sort of error that detects when a certain number of pipes are now no longer the previous system type and are a new type that will throw a notification and an option that lets you revert the change or to go ahead with the change (just in case it was intentional) Show More

It would be very helpful if the bounding box only considered visible elements. If an element's visibility is turned off in the family via the "Family Element Visibility Settings" dialog, the bounding box does not adjust accordingly. There are elements that we only want to be visible in 3D views, but this makes selecting elements using a selection window quite difficult. Show More

Could a text understanding level be added so that when you type something along the lines of {element id, parameter name} it fills in that value to the displayed value. When you edit it have it show the reference. Another way of doing this would be fine but some way to have the parameters in text would be appreciated. Along the same lines the ability to link parameters from an element in a linked model and an element in your model would be nice. Example being mechanical equipment in a mechanical model and a connection in the electrical model. The connection load could be set to {element id, parameter name} of the mechanical equipment.   It would be nice if we had the ability to make more complex shapes with extrusions. The mass tool allows us to make a shape then select a point or edge to drag and create more unique/sloped/triangular/pointed shapes. That would be nice to have available for extrusions for anyone that does a lot of custom work. Revit families CAN be created with the mass family, but its not ideal b/c then the family is forced to be categorized as "mass" instead of letting us choose generic, casework, etc.   Thanks. Can an option be added to the "From" column in the wall reveal/sweep settings where we can associate a reveal with a specific level in the model, rather than top/bottom extent of wall? This is particularly an issue when the walls and foundations aren't all at the same elevation, so the reveals and sweeps move following the base of the wall, rather than the level at which we want to show them. For example, on one end of the building we have truck docks and a lower base of wall, while on the other end we are at level 0'-0", so the reveals tied to the base are not aligned across the entire building and we have to duplicate wall types for each instance of wall. Same goes when a building has several parapet heights due to a large roof sloping across great lengths and the reveals/sweeps being tied to the top of wall elevation rather than the roof level.  Show More

It would be helpful if ceiling could be shape-edited like floors and roofs instead of having to place slope areas and spending a lot of time trying to match up multiple sloped ceilings where they join. I've had to make a ceiling out of a floor family before to this. Show More

We do a lot of industrial work and put guardrails on steel beams regularly. It would be great if you could select a beam or horizontal brace - flat or sloped - and attach a railing to it. Only being able to draw flat railings or attach them to stairs or ramps is leaving a lot of railing applications dependent on work-arounds.  Show More
