Revit 2027 Duct, Pipe, Conduit & Tray Sizing

Restore the ability to resize duct, pipe, conduit, and cable tray runs along with their fittings using the Modify Multi-Select ribbon. Previous versions of Revit allowed users to select connected segments and fittings and modify their sizes simultaneously. In Revit 2027, users must resize the straight segments and fittings separately, adding unnecessary steps to a common MEP workflow. Reinstating this functionality would improve efficiency and provide a more consistent editing experience for MEP designers and engineers.

Voted this one!
There is a function Change Size, but that one disappears when you use nested components inside the fitting.

Let us say; It is not a good idea that functions such as mentioned, as well as ChangeType, and Slope (for piping) have been disabled IF fitting-families contain any shared-nested components.
Autodesk's comments, which I saw, mention: "some issues have occured ending up in some crashes"... 
Installers & engineers need way more time on 2026 and beyond due to the disabling when shared-nested is being used. Over 12 years it all worked fine until recently some people found some issues more important than rock-solid and proven workflows... most affected are the pipefittings for waste-pipes; #Geberit #Wavin #Dyka #Aliaxis #GeorgFischer

These new changes to piping, duct, and cable trays are devastating to the workflow of MEP designers.

This may be one of the worst changes they could make. This makes a task that used to take a few seconds turn into nearly a minute, or longer, depending on how many errors changing just the pipes before the fittings cause.

Agreeing with Aaron on this one.  This isn't moving MEP Revit workflow/design forward, its taking a big step backwards. 👎

I completely agree with @Dave_Barnette and the other commenters here. As @jwarrenQ2ZK4 mentioned, these changes are truly devastating to the workflow of MEP designers. Our MEP design firm is currently stuck on Revit 2026 because migrating to Revit 2027 is completely unfeasible without these critical sizing and routing tools.

The UI redesign and the removal of the Options Bar have severely impacted our productivity. Like aaron.lippard noted, what used to take seconds now takes much longer due to the unnecessary extra steps.

Specifically, our team is struggling with the following missing workflows:

  • Simultaneous Sizing: As the original post states, we must now resize straight segments and fittings separately. Selecting both pipes and fittings completely hides the diameter/size option in the Properties palette.

  • Vertical Routing (Risers): The missing "Apply" button (formerly located on the Options Bar) makes routing vertical pipes highly difficult and unintuitive.

  • UI Inefficiency: The Properties palette is overloaded. Forcing users to hunt for basic parameters like "Diameter" and "Middle Elevation" among dozens of other properties severely slows down modeling. The Options Bar placed these strategically at the top.

We strongly urge the Autodesk development team to release a hotfix restoring the Modify Multi-Select sizing tools and the Options Bar controls for MEP elements. Until this is addressed, our firm cannot adopt Revit 2027.

I agree with @jwarrenQ2ZK4@maiconDNGQP and the others comments these changes are truly devastating to the workflow of MEP designers.
We urgently need Autodesk to release a fix restoring the dimensioning tools for multiple selection and the Options Bar controls for MEP elements. Until this issue is resolved, our company will not be able to adopt Revit 2027.

On my Revit 2027, when I select the Run there is a "Change Size" button

When you click it, then you can change the size of all of the run.

The Change Size button is 'almost' there, but it's still a net negative from the prior UI.

 

  • You can't type in alternate units and retrieve near-equivalencies. So no mm->inch or vice versa. This isn't a common workflow, but it was an option before.
  • To inspect a common-size run of combination ducts and fittings, you have to enter the Change Size command even if you don't actually want to change the size. In the prior versions, selecting a run of 12" round with 12" elbows actually showed (via the contextual mini ribbon) that the whole run was 12" diameter. In the Properties palette, the Size is displayed as <Varies>, so 
  • At the start of the command, you can hit Enter Key to exit the command, but you cannot do so to apply changes. So...
    • You still have to press buttons for confirmation. Previously, you just had to move the mouse off the contextual mini-ribbon to apply changes. A hand twitch is always faster than a precision click.
  • You can't inspect the Elevation of a combination of Ducts and Fittings, even if they have identical values. Again, this was previously visible through the mini ribbon.

The only saving grace is that Change Size is configurable as a keyboard shortcut, but it's still less functional than the legacy design.

Risers

 

The new workflow to generate an open-ended riser is now drawing an element, changing the Elevation in the Properties palette, then going back to Placement Tools to hit the Create Riser Button. Which is to say the screen locations to generate a vertical offset due to elevation and a riser element are now in two completely different places, versus just staying in the mini ribbon via the old Apply button.

If possible, open a support ticket regarding this feature. An important option was simply removed here without providing an adequate alternative.

Another item on this topic is the nomenclature that a pipe size must be typed in as when changing the size. Instead of hitting "1.5" and enter on the keyboard, you now must type in "1 1/2" or scroll through the list of options. Really nitpicky request, but made the workflow feel much more seamless previously.
