How to Post to the Idea Boards – Collaborate!

Do you have an idea on how to make an Autodesk product or service better? Search existing ideas to see if someone else has already suggested something similar, give Likes to add your vote for future implementation or post new suggestions in one of our corresponding Idea boards.

Guidelines for Posting Ideas and Feedback:

  • Check to see if your idea is similar to another before posting
This can help you two ways: if the idea already exists, you should join your feedback to the current idea rather than watering down the potential impact across multiple submissions. Or if your idea is similar to another but substantively different you should reference the previous idea and point out the differences to avoid confusion.
  • Review the ideas of others
Look at other ideas periodically to see what your fellow members are requesting and comment on them! While we take into account the number of votes an idea receives, we also consider the amount and quality of member feedback when making our decisions.
  • Ideas are great, but enhancements and suggestions are even better
Tell us why you need that new field, tool or feature, instead of exact specifications and blueprints for how to build it. That will not only help us to better understand what you want, but we may even be able to solve your problem more quickly in another way.
  • 2 Ideas are better than 1
We want to hear all of your great ideas, but not all together at once. In order to efficiently catalog and potentially implement ideas, we ask that you please limit each submission to a single idea and create a new submission for each subsequent idea that you have.
  • Some ideas are easier to implement than others
Don't be discouraged if your amazing new idea is not picked up immediately. All ideas are reviewed for member interest, complexity, alignment with our product vision and prioritization against other projects. Some ideas take longer than others, and some ideas will not be possible within the scope of what we want to accomplish in the next year or so.

Idea Statuses

Our product development teams carefully review ideas on a regular basis and assign a status to each idea which helps show where an idea is on its way to being implemented.

  • Gathering Support: Default status for all newly submitted ideas. Ready to be voted and commented on, members are encouraged to socialize and gather support for their idea before our Product Managers review them for potential impact, feasibility, and strategic fit.
  • Under Review: Once the community has had a chance to comment and vote, some ideas will need a deeper dive to determine technical scoping, before potentially moving into a development backlog.
  • Future Consideration: While we’re generally a fan of these ideas, the timing isn’t quite right for development consideration. As such, they are being put on the back burner to be re-visited at a later date. Please continue to comment and add your support.
  • Accepted: Not only have these ideas been vetted by the community and our product teams, but we’ve also added them to our development backlog so that they can be considered for future inclusion into a given product or service. Please note: we cannot confirm that ideas with this status will be implemented and/or provide a time frame as to when they might be implemented.
  • Implemented: These ideas have been developed and is now live in an Autodesk product or service!
  • Archived: Due to a low strategic fit, technical feasibility, or the support of your peers, ideas with this status are not being considered for implementation at this time. Thank you for your contribution, every idea has merit. We always encourage you to rework and resubmit these ideas based on feedback received.
