How to make the most of the idea boards

UG Ideas.png

Over the past decade, the Autodesk Community has contributed thousands of ideas to our product teams, leading to the implementation of community-suggested features in Autodesk products. Search the idea boards for existing ideas, give votes and likes and add comments to features you want to see or create new ideas for the community to build on.

Guidelines for Posting Ideas and Feedback:

  • Vote for existing ideas that are similar to yours
The votes of Autodesk Community are one factor used by our products to help prioritize future features. By adding votes to existing ideas, you help create a single idea with more votes than many submissions with fewer votes. Add comments to existing ideas to help share your thoughts and suggestions on how this idea should be made real.

Of course, if you have an idea that is different from those already shared, please create a new idea for the community to rally behind.

  • Review the ideas of others
Check the idea boards regularly to see what ideas community members have shared. We recommend adding your votes and comments to ideas you want to support. While votes are one way of showing what´s important to the community, our product teams also review the comments to understand the problem being solved and align with development roadmaps.

  • Ideas are great, but enhancements and suggestions are even better
What problem are you trying to solve? Rather than exact details and blueprints, the surrounding context behind an idea can be incredibly helpful for our product teams, as they may already be working on something that solves the problem you are facing or provides a new scenario to be considered.

    • Example Idea: I would like to be able to quickly model standardized threads (the idea) on my CAD model rather than the image representations we have now (the current limitation). I have a 3D printer, so being able to export a model with real threads allows me to print my models with the threads included to the correct standard (what this idea allows me to do).

  • 2 Ideas are better than 1 big idea
To help keep Autodesk Community organized and conversations on track, please only include one idea per submission. Multiple ideas in one submission make it hard to focus the discussion and get to the heart of the problem being solved. That being said, you are more than welcome to submit multiple ideas, and we encourage you to do so!

  • Some ideas are easier to implement than others
Our product and development teams review all ideas submitted, so please be patient and don’t be discouraged if you don’t hear back straight away. Some ideas require more work to be implemented, and some ideas will take some time to align with our product vision and roadmap, taking into account members' interests and impact.

Idea Statuses

Our product development teams carefully review ideas on a regular basis and assign each one a status, which helps show where an idea is on its way to being implemented.

  • Gathering Support: The starting point and default status for all submitted ideas. Vote and comment on these ideas to make your mark and suggest how these ideas should be made real. Our product managers will review ideas with this status and consider the potential impact, product vision, and feasibility of implementation.

  • Under Review: These ideas have had an opportunity for the community to vote and add comments, so our product teams are now investigating the technical scope of these ideas before they are added to the development backlog.

  • Future Consideration: These ideas are popular with both Autodesk Community and our product teams but the timing isn’t quite right to be added to the development backlog. This doesn’t mean the idea will never be implemented, so please continue to vote and add your support.

  • Accepted: These ideas have passed Autodesk Community and the product team, so they are now in the development backlog!

Please note that an idea being marked as accepted is not a commitment to the idea being implemented, and idea statuses may change in the future.

  • Implemented: These ideas have been developed and are now live in an Autodesk product or service!

  • Archived: Unfortunately, due to a low strategic fit with our product vision or limited feasibility, ideas with this status are no longer being considered for implementation at this time. Thank you for sharing your idea, as every idea has merit and may have inspired another idea in the community. Please continue to share, rework and update these ideas based on the feedback received,
