Toposolids cut by Walls

Toposolids cut by Walls

Toposolids can be cut by floors but not by walls. This requires extra steps of work-arounds to make sections read graphically correct. Either by creating an extra floor that is thin to be at the base of the wall so the toposolid cuts but the floor is not visible. Or by using Cut Geometry to cut the toposolid with each wall. Either option is cumbersome and time consuming.

Please make a setting that can fix this issue.

  1. make toposolids automatically not show through walls?
  2. make walls an element you can use to excavate the toposolid
  3. ....?

Unless I'm reading this idea incorrectly, what version of Revit are you using?  Walls can definitely cut and excavate a toposolid.  https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/What-are-the-metho...

I think the biggest issue at this point is to be able to cut a toposolid with a linked model elements. See and vote for this idea: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/allow-toposolid-to-be-excavated-by-linked-file/idi-p/1290...

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones, I'm thinking this should be marked Implemented?  Thoughts.

@Ric_Weber While it absolutely says so in the article you linked, I could not get a wall cutting right through a toposolid to be picked as an excavating entity in revit 2027. Maybe that was different when toposolids were introduced first?

@MiWolff, that is interesting...  Are both the wall and the toposolid in the same model file?  If so, that seems to definitely be one of two things: #1. a bug or error or #2. the documentation is flawed, in which case that needs to be fixed and this idea needs all the votes it can get.  I'm going to go on the assumption it is probably #2. So I'm going to lend my vote as well.

Hi!

The trick to getting a wall to join a toposolid is to use the Join Geometry tool. You may need to then use the Switch Join Order tool to make it join correctly, but I was able to make this work in Revit 2027.3.

So it is a trick and no 'real' excavation which is what the idea is after. I'd like this bug fixed, too. Leave it to the designers whether all walls need some structure below it that revit thinks appropriate for excavations.
