Filter Selected Elements by Size

Filter Selected Elements by Size

It would be beneficial to introduce a “Filter by Size” function when selecting multiple MEP elements in Revit.

For example, when multiple pipes of different diameters are selected, the user could filter the selection based on the pipe size and then apply a specific parameter or type change to only that subset.

This would be particularly useful when applying different insulation thicknesses to pipes based on their diameter.

For example:

  • DN15–DN50 → 25 mm insulation
  • DN65–DN100 → 40 mm insulation
  • DN125 and above → 50 mm insulation

Currently, managing this across a large selection can require additional filtering, scheduling, or manual selection. A direct “Filter by Size” option within the selection workflow would make this process significantly faster and reduce the risk of incorrectly assigning insulation requirements.

This functionality could also be extended to other size-dependent parameters, such as:

  • Insulation thickness
  • Pipe/duct types
  • Lining thickness
  • System classification
  • Other MEP parameters that depend on element size

Benefit: This would improve modelling efficiency, reduce repetitive manual work, and help maintain consistency when applying size-based MEP requirements across large models.

Surely this can be achieved by just using a schedule with the appropriate parameters in it?
