I feel Fusions spline tool is a blessing and a curse in the same time 😉 While easy of use is fantastic the UI or G1 G2 options seem to be very hard to understand and need some improvement to make sense.   For example Alias has very striaght forward G0 G1 G2 G3 align tools via the CVs and UI elements:   Fusion with offering spline hanles (tangent and curvature) and in addition G1 and G2 constraint is honestly hard for me to grasp to see what is where going on or how each influences whom. I'm working on a new design, where I've done a 3D scan of a body part, and I want to do a 3D sketch with lines or splines that snap to the geometry. I know I can go into sculpt and add face to do this, however I want to create pure sketch data and then use this to create pipes. The very inconvenient workaround right now is to use the add face command and then select part of the edges to create pipes. Also it would be nice to sort of paint of the faces with a brush, to create 2D sketches in 3D that are snapped to underlying data. Sort of like you would do manually with the add face command, but with this you could make it easier to create same width data that twirls and spins 🙂   Best regards,  Roberto Show More

This one is fairly minor, but whenever I'm entering a number in an input box I always hit enter just out of habit.  Hitting enter closes the edit window when what I actually wanted was for the number to be accepted, and for the cursor to move to the next input box.  I know that hitting enter isn't necessary since the interface is constantly looking for a change in input values and updating on the fly.  But this behavior is actually more annoying I think than useful, because if I don't enter a number fast enough it pops up an error saying the input is invalid, when I'm simply not done yet.   Am I the only one that doesn't like this feature?   C| Show More

2D sketches might be nice for certain types of work but all that create 2d sketch planes and intersect surfaces etc to find curves on curfaces I could snap to is just a nightmare of steps I as a designer really do not want to have to work with. There's often situations where you need to export parts of your design into special formats. May it be for production or to just give it to other people.   This can include:   - Export to stl for 3D printing or 3D milling - Save as DXF for laser cutting or milling - Export to STEP for further use in other software or to hand out to other people.   At least for me these 3 would be the main cases. Problem now is that if you have multiple of them in one design and you change things in your design, the re-export of all this stuff is annoying and unhandy. When I rename a feature in the timeline, a text box appears with the current name in it.  But the text box doesn't have focus, I can't just start typing in a new name, first so I have to use my mouse to select all the text in the box. I'd like to see this text box default to having focus and all the text pre-selected.  This way to rename a feature, I click rename in the context menu, then I can just start typing, my new text would overwrite the previous text. Howdy! I was looking at the "riding a bike backwards" thread elsewhere. Although at first the posts seem to criticize, I have seen recent ones with good thoughts. While there is the ability to insert Manual NC lines in CAM setups, it would be helpful for people without a CAM background to be able to use sketches/3d sketches to create move paths to help ensure proper clearance moves around fixturing constraints, rather than just using a "clearance plane" which may not be adequate to define the work area restrictions. It'd be handy to have the option to "move tool along contour" but without the spindle running, and also to insert pauses and such for adjusting fixtures or loading/unloading them in a safe way, without having to look up the G-code to do it. When you make CAM patterns say I pattern parts in a 2x2 grid or more. Say I only want to select the left two patterns to machine and on the next batch select the right two. Or on the next batch select the top two parts or the bottom two. Or just a single part in the pattern for prototyping/testing before I do the entire run or if I want to add certain features or finished to certain parts in my pattern. I know that keep original can be uncheacked but if I set up a piece of stock and mess up on the first part and quicky want to generate more code for the next spot in the pattern or a selected spot it would be very handy.   Show More

Snapping in TS I think needs some additional options to be more productive and usable   1. Stablize snap result when gliding TS mesh over brep surface (currently the snap function adds chaos to snap) 2. Snapping of vertext to edge/face/vertext (same TS object or to different TS object) 3. Keyshortcut to turn snapping on the fly on off   Looking at some other poly modeler and how they solved snapping can be a good idea. For making faces   allow fourth vertex to be freely placed. This should be the default I'd suggest! I do not think that it is smart to force a user to click a sketch curve to turn on the curvature comb but use the instecption tool comb for surface edges.   I think this is onconsistent and adds clutter to the UI and confusion to the user.   Show More

While the design timeline is a great idea to finish a single part the timeline is not ideal when working with many parts creating them and then doing the assembly.   The features in the DM environment seem to be kinda wonky like sometimes I cannot edit a value like I can in the TL.   I coming from Alias / Blender prefer working on a per object basis when it comes to features. In Blender like Alias objects have an object center point and transformation values. So I can do my design history on the object but the positioning placement scale or rotation is taken care of by the object data.   There I see the problem in the TL. I would need to build all my furniture parts first and then do them assembly and move a lot forward and backwards in the timeline.   The problem with that is also when I move back all the following steps are not visible. Thats a great problem.   That's why for furniture design I prefer Blender because it allows me to work like with solids in Inventor add modifiers such as thickness, boolean operations etc as interactive features and position and arrange all parts with the object data. When I model / modify one part I always see everything else because I do not go forward in time or so.   I do now know how hard it would be to enhance the DM mode so that it has a better feature system.     Alternatively I would need to build parts alone in files and then insert them into an assembly file. There are a lot of nice tools in F360 for building uniform thickness designs (like shelling and thickening surfaces), but it'd be great if there were a design mode for building up things with either uniform thickness (sheet metal / simple injection molded parts), or variable thickness subjected to certain design rules (injection molding with automatic drafts and thicknesses for bosses / ribs / etc) - especially if the parametrics would allow for changing those design rules for different polymers and processes while preserving key features. While adding collinear constraints between a small edge and a larger edge, I find it very hard to select the smaller edge. Consider the case below. I've selected a Collinear constraint in the picker. I've selected the long line (in bold white). Now I need to select the little segment on the smaller rectangle. It's super hard. The already selected line keeps getting highlighted.    Is there any reason why I'd be selecting a segment twice? By definition, isn't a line collinear with itself? If so, why complicate the selection process by letting it get in the way of selecting what I really want. It seems like a line already used in the first part of a constraint operation shouldn't be selectable in the second.    Show More

This would be similar to the Track Changes tool in Word. At a certain point the user would click «start tracking changes» and all modifications from that point on would be shown with a color or similar indication.   There are many times when mating surfaces need to be push-pulled by some amount to ensure proper fit and something like this would be helpful to ensure that we get everything and don't hit the same surface more than once (of course - some sort of automated fitting tolerances with ghost components would be better.. but that'd be a major new feature and this you could probably implement in a few hours). I just noticed that Fusion does not store the rotation factor when moving rotating etc an object.   This is a major short comming of the design timeline idea and adding features. What purpose does the move feature have when after I did a command I do not know what I did. With an extrude command it always tells you how far you extruded etc.   So the move command has to have also store the move and rotate values!!!   Otherwise I have to write down on paper what I did. Right now, it can be a little confusing jumping into a design file that has multiple CAM setup folders, and know exactly which folder you have selected (for lets say posting, or editing), and which one is actually active (for new operations to fall under).   Here is what it looks like currently.   The two colors are fairly similar. One of them is active, and one of them is selected. My guys in the shop are constantly getting them confused. One of the main issues is when they go to post, sometimes no folder is selected, but the one is still active. So they see the blue highlight, and think they're about to post that setup only. But then they get the warning that they're about to post everything. I always get the question of "Which blue is the blue I am about to post again?"   My suggestion is maybe either change the color of the "active" setup (which to me will then lead to questions of which color is active, and which color is select so I can post), or eliminating the highlight color from the "active" folder, and just keeping that radio button visible that is used to activate a setup. That way they can see only one folder actually highlighted, and know that for sure is the one they're about to post.   Not the largest issue in the world. But it is definitely something I have to hear complaints about almost weekly. Show More

I have been doing a lot of programming with Fusion 360 and my idea, I think, will save time, tools, and frustrations. When I program milling toolpaths, I calculate my feeds and speeds based on tool loading and material, but theoretical numbers may not be what works best. So when I edit the toolpath, I may just want to adjust the SFM of the tool, but the chip load will change too. It seems that the Feed Rate in in/min is the priority, when i feel it should be the chip load per tooth.  Just a toggle button to lock or unlock a field so that it does not get recalculated would be handy.   Or take a poll, on whether people would prefer feed per tooth, or feed per minute to be the fixed value during a recalculation.   I vote Feed/Tooth     Show More

I'd almost bet I'm missing something because this seems so obvious but I often find myself wanting to do something like taking two perpendicular cross-sections and building a smooth body.. but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to do that starting with something like this     About the best / simplest thing I can do is to split those two cross-sections then loft all around and make a closed body     but I have no control over the tangency so I end up with something like       which seems very unnatural.   Even if I don't play with the handles on a spline loop, I get something much more reasonable [cross sectional comparision]     Now I know that I can go through and make a bunch of cross-sections and do traditional lofting but that takes something that feels like it should be doable in 5 minutes and makes a big project of it and it litters the design with construction planes and sketches.   It'd be great just to be able to loft using one cross section along the long axis and then the two perpendicular cross sections as rails but when I try that it tells me that the body would intersect itself. I've had a lot of issues with lofting but one that keeps cropping up is that it'll often generate nonsensical results.   Case in point - consider lofting between two very symmetric profiles.     One would expect the loft to preserve the symmetries but instead it does something like this     I get that it can be hard to match but in a case like this, it's just a matter of recognizing that both planes are parallel, projecting one onto the other, and finding the nearest points.   It'd be great to be able to do things like this without adding a lot of rails and generally doing more work. I find myself going into appearance and swapping between the final material appearance and something like white plastic so I can alternately see what things will look like and see them in a way that’s easy to see details and work with.   Component color cycling kinda works for this but it'd be great to have a keyboard shortcut to have just the current component display as something like a high-contrast grey or off-white so it's easy to see the shading and details - and it should be super fast and just a quick keyboard shortcut away at any moment. I am not sure if maybe the idea / plan is to bring many DM patch tools into the design time line but I find it confusing to have featrues in DM when they dont really do much, or for example when I extrude from a sketch adjusting the sketch will not affect the extrude DM patch command.   Below I started to build parts in DM via the insert base feature.   And when I change a base feature sketch nothing really changes, I also cannot delete the mesh and and re extrude from the sketch. Fusion should also allow you to export directly from Brep or TS into OBJ.   Reasons:   Faster workflow.   Currently I need to convert TS to BRep to Mesh to export - way to much to do.   Flexebility / compatiblity: TS in Fusion is somewhat less powerful than Modo/Blender but the beauty is to have both to work with (start in Fusion push to Modo/Blender for detailed work, bring back into TS Fusion)   Exporting TS models into OBJ is also superior for rendering because Blender/Modo can use OBJ and subdiv to generate matching render models without meshing / heavily tesselating Breps!!!   Show More

Too many commands are scattered all over the interface and follow not logic.   The convert button should always present you the option to convert Mesh to TS Mesh to BRep I really do not want to have to switch to the Patch mode just to be able to convert mesh to TS.    Convert in Patch mode turns Mesh into TS, why makes no sense, I am in Patch mode. Convert in Sculpt mode turns Mesh into TS, makes sense I am in Sculpt Mode.     So If I click on a mesh in Browser or RMB click on a mesh in the 3D view should also be the same options to convert.   Currently only Patch main menu gives me the option to convert Mesh to Brep. RMB in Browser only gives me Convert to TS option.   Convert should also include BRep to Mesh, when I select a BRep surface. Show More
