Split .stl during export in multiple parts, to print large objects.

Split .stl during export in multiple parts, to print large objects.

Inspired by http://3dprint.com/10391/3dprinttech-3d-print-large-objects/ , but this is only for AutoCAD, Inventor and SolidWorks. Besides, they do a lousy job at the interface, and at making the interconnecting dowels.

I'm sure the creators of the awesome Fusion 360 can do this MUCH better 🙂

Thanks for reading.

The also should do it better - their current implementation is not the greatest as well.

Rhino runs circles around them.

I also like Rhino, but it lacks a history tree...

We agree that this is a needed capability.  We have created a task to ensure it doesn't get lost as we work on the 3D print solutions.  This is being tracked as task FUS-14436.

Thanks for raising the issue.

It wouldn't be difficult to save a new version of the cad file. Then make an offset plane to slice into 2 bodies. You can then export multiple bodies into separate STLs and print. You could even build in a post on the bottom half and use it to cut a hole in the top half for stronger assembly.

Tools like this are coming in the first half of next year.

We will start in our Feb 7 update with expanding our basic mesh infrastructure. Once that is in these tools will be easier to add.

Yep, but having this automated by the exporter would save a lot of time...
