In order for 3rd-party tools (such as Unhide Elements in View) to provide better alternatives to "Reveal Hidden Elements", we need to be able to see modifications to linked elements (not just host model elements).   Otherwise, it's very difficult to unhide something using the OOTB "Reveal Hidden Elements" tool, and Autodesk seems determined to do nothing about it (as evidenced by the many ideas to improve Reveal Hidden Elements).  Show More

I would like a GetViewElementIds method for FileExportingEventArgs similar to what is provided in DocumentPrintingEventArgs. This would enable plugins which subscribe to the printing process for preflight checks or document modification to apply those checks or modifications to only those views being exported, rather than the entire model. When accessing an instance of an family hosting nested families, its no problem to access the instance parameters of the nested family instances  (via Revit API or Dynamo).  But SetParameterValues (dynamo) or SetValue (API) on an instance parameter of a nested family always results in message that paramater is read-only.   Parameter should be modifiable or in short "get rid of readonly flag", as long as the parameter are instance parameters, not associated with a parameter of the hosting family already.  This would enable to change the values of instance parameters of different instances of same family type to different values.   Note: Would users of Revit UI enable to change instance parameters of this type of families in schedules as well. More and more, BIM coordinators are interested in looking at the key performance indicators of a Revit model - both currently and over time.   The single-most important metric in Revit is the number of errors and warnings in the model. Unfortunately, it is not really possible to extract this most important information using the API. Yes, Jeremy once pointed out that there's a windows hack to trigger the Manage Warnings via the UI (which then will report the warnings via FailureProcessing) - but this is not really a reasonable API solution. It is fragile.   I think the three reasonable ways to accomplish this somehow would be: - Make an API which triggers the failures (much like hitting the Manage Warnings button). - Make an API which just retrieves the information directly - Make an API which executes the Manage Warnings + Export command to send the errors out to an HTML file (not that good, but it's far better than what we have today).   This would open the door for a wide variety of mechanisms for BIM coordinators and technologists to understand the warnings, build dashboards and even manage the process of reducing the errors on a project.   Show More

Provide API support for Application Developers to create their own Temporary View State similar to Temporary View States employed by the native Revit Application. Developers would be able to choose their own border color (the API may prevent the use of border colors already employed by native Revit tools) and their own Temporary View State title. The Developer would have full control over the view state once the Temporary State is enabled, the developer could choose to allow user manipulation of the view state via native Revit controls, provide their own controls to manipulate the view state or fully control the temporary view state from the custom application. The Developer would be able to save the temporary view state as a new View Template or a New View in that state (duplicate view with the state applied as the native state of the new view).   This functionality would be useful to 3rd Party Developers for the same reason that native Revit developers have chosen to employ these temporary view states in the application. The need or requirement to highlight user attention on specific elements or other key information in a view, without modifying the native state which may be controlled by View Template; or it is simply not desirable to modify the user's intent while needing to emphasize certain data for the end user's benefit.   I have a bunch of buttons in our Ribbon tabs - most are just to insert Detail Components & Annotations Symbols using PostRequestForElementTypePlacement, and some are links to web pages (for HOWTOs and documentation). I've enabled the buttons for zero doc state (by implementing IExternalCommandAvailability). However, ALL of the buttons get disabled in Group Edit mode.   Apparently, this is a known issue, per (and support request 20010953):   How to enable buttons in Group Edit mode - Autodesk Community - Revit Products   I assume there are some technical issues with potential "bad behavior" that could happen, but maybe allowing some restricted/simple stuff (like I mention above) would be easier? Currently Split/Split With Gap are only enumeration members (they cannot be used in a script).  I would like to be able to have a command that is something like Element.Split(plane)  where you could specify a plane (or point) at which to split the specified element.    Example use case would be splitting columns - if I wanted to split columns using the API, i actually have to create many copies of the column, then adjust the top/bottom of each column to achieve what could be accomplished with Split.
