Same way you can hide bend extends in a drawing view, it would be great to be able to hide the bend lines. Finishing 3D surfaces with a 3-axis machine and a ball end-mill can be challenging.  In a single op, you can have the ball engaged near the tip where the SFM is much lower, and other times engaged near the side where it behaves more like a straight endmill -- and anywhere in between.  If you run the speeds/feeds calculation for these 2 scenarios, accounting for chip thinning, the spindle-speed and feed-rate can be wildly different for tip cutting vs side cutting, and can result in poor surface finish in some areas.   For example, using a 2-flute, .250" ball end mill at 980 sfm with a .002" ipt chip load, and a .020" DOC (axial and radial): When the endmill is parallel to the surface (cutting with the side), I get a 15,000 rpm spindle speed, and 111 ipm feed rate. When the endmill is perpendicular to the surface (cutting with the tip), I get a 27,500 rpm spindle speed, and 204 ipm feed rate. A workaround is to use the "slope" function, or tool path containment to limit how far up a ramp the cutter is allowed to go, but sometimes that results in a noticeable line on the finished part where the 2 ops meet.   It would be awesome if Fusion had a way to dynamically change the spindle-speed and feed-rate based on this angle of engagement.  For ball-end mills, it should be relatively simple sine function.  You could implement this for other endmill geometries also, but the calculation would be more complex.   What I'm suggesting is a little different than what was posted  here, which was for variable speed based on depth of cut. While designing my star cruiser I have ran into a problem locating the correct center of gravity. The manufacturer of the Turbo Star Drive I will be using in this particular craft's build will only supply me with the unit's weight and exterior dimensions. This drive unit is manufactured with proprietary alloys and top secret components. As such, disassembly and reverse engineering of the unit to more accurately determine material specifics is not only extremely dangerous (some Dark Matter is used for wave form guidance) but a tamper evident label is used on the drive's enclosure that will void the unit's warranty if tamper is evident! I have gone through the tedious process of applying different Fusion 360 material's to my Turbo Star Drive model but none have matched the manufacturer's specified weight for the unit. It is of utmost importance to know the vesel's correct center of mass with the Turbo Star Drive installed for proper vehicle design. It would be great if we could add an option under the linking tab that could define whether or not to rapid in an X *and* Y path, or an X *then* Y or Y *then* X.    Case in point, Running a part currently where I have 2 clamps in the way of a straight line X,Y move between a multi depth cut. The machine I am running this on only has about 5" of total Z travel and I am using a long endmill so if I put a tall enough retract height to clear the clamp, I get an alarm on my machine telling me its not possible.    I am able to go around the clamp rather than through it by making my X move first, then my Y move. IE: Instead of N100 G0 X3.350 Y0.250 Be able to post as  N100 G0 X3.350 N101 G0 Y0.250 ...   This seems like something that would be really simple to add, just a simple check box for Rapid move X Priority, or Y Priority, or No Priority.    Currently manual editing post process, but when I repost my programs for small changes if I forget it creates a crash possibility.  Mostrar más

When entering dimensions in a parametric sketch, we have to type in the number in Fusion 360. It would be great if we could have a spin box to increase/decrease the value by a set amount. This can help you quickly evaluate how different dimensions affect the look of the sketch profile.    I work in mm and would set the spin box increments to 1mm. The spinning can be done by scrolling the middle mouse button to increase or decrease the dimension. much better than typing in a bunch of different numbers to get the correct look for your profile in my opinion. I am working with a 7 button mouse, and would absolutely love to be able to assign the view tools like orbit to my extra mouse buttons, since my m4 and m5 buttons are on the side so it will feel kind of like grabbing and moving the object. I am able to assign other tools to m4, but I can only set orbit pan and zoom shortcuts to the predefined setups. I know that other people will want to be able to assign custom keybindings other than the ones available to the view tools too, and as far as i can tell the only way to change them is to set them to the Alias, Inventor, Solidworks, or Tinkercad presets. It´s a mess having a 3D model in Fusion but have to go to Solidworks to get a proper plan because you CAN´T MAKE A SKETCH ON A DRAWING IN FUSION 360!!!  I´m a loyal user of Fusion and I know very well its capabilities, but I also know its limitations and this is one of them. I would like to be able to automatically name components, CAM programs, drawings etc.  The main problem I want to solve is having to type in the program name for every cam setup I create.  I want to set the default program to be the component name, or even better set the setup name to be component name 1,2,3 etc instead of setup 1,2,3.  Then use the setup name to be the program name.  There are other instances where I want file and component names to be parameters, but I can't think of them now even though I've been grumbling to myself about this for years.  Mostrar más

It would be more easy to create the sweep command which include the path of the sweep to be sketched at first. I think it is difficult to create a kind of 3D curve in the design (sketch) environment.So it would be easy to create a spline in the the 3D form and then use the sweep command. Mostrar más

It smashes everything together when viewing this from the main forum.  Open it, and prepare to be inspired! 😃   Expanding the capabilities of the Align Tool. A simple and super convenient way to do it, add a drop down option in the Align Tool to include a 3 point selection align.  3 Point Alignment Origin Points select 1st point select 2nd point select 3rd point Target Points select 1st point select 2nd point select 3rd point  Select 3 points on each of the features,  1 aligns with 1, 2 aligns with 2, 3 aligns with 3. DONE. 8)  The mating feature would automatically move and rotate to match the 6 points together. Removing tabs on your parts is a time consuming job if you have a lot of parts. To reduce the count of tabs I always place tabs by hand at specific points (for example 3 tabs per part). The automatic placement based on distance generates not enough tabs for small parts and/or too many tabs for big parts in my experience. As placing the tabs by hand is time consuming as well an option to generate always the same amount of tabs per contour would be very helpful. To further reduce the effort of removing the tabs from your parts a good approach is to place only one tab at the start/end point of the contour. As the cut finishes directly above the tab the stress put on the tab is minimal. I have very good results with this method. As there is no feature in Fusion 360 I have to check for every contour where it starts/ends and than try to place one single tab as close as possible to this position. It is a lot of effort but worth it as I only have to remove one tab from each part after milling. An option to place this one single tab at the start/end point of a contour would very helpful. I think it will be a good idea to add the ability to copy move and paste "independent features" of one component's timeline to another component and thus setting the so-copied-features to the new component's origin. This will probably work only with "independent features" or groups of features, which do not have critical dependencies apart from the origin of their initial component.  It will give you more control when creating similar components with few differences in between, and you need to add a certain change to more than one already "unlinked" components.  Instead of using workaround methods like adding the same features again for each component or copying the whole original component with the desired features and "pasting as new"... this ability will, at the very least, bring the needed features into the desired component's timeline.   ...and if the other components are "new copies" of an original component, moving (copying and pasting) features between them can even try to follow other already shared parameters and features between them.   Example: I have made a surgical intramedullary nail with holes. I designed the first original component as a 220 mm long nail with dependent dimensions (d1 length, d3  dist between hole 2 and 3, d15 bending angle ...etc)  Then I pasted 4 "new copies" of the first component with changed dimensions to get a 200mm, 180mm and 160mm length (d1 changed, d3 - new value... )   Now decided to add another hole at a certain angle on one of the two shorter nails. [sketch circle at distance = d1-d4 from origin (example).... extrude cylinder.... chamfer edges]   ...what if I could just select those features (which in this case happen to be easily reproducible from scratch), and paste them "new" (meaning independent) onto other components that "understand" those dimensions because they still share them from before...     Mostrar más

Was thinking it would be cool if you could draw a sweep of a tube, and have it calculate where on the physical piece of tubing one would need to place the marks. Sort of like the unfold command in the sheet metal tool. Would make building roll cages and the like very similar. There is a program which does this, called BendTech, but it's sort of lacking in other modeling features.  Mostrar más

I'm just starting out in Fusion360, but I've worked with Rhino and AutoCAD for years. The absence of a command line is making things painfully slow to use, which is a massive shame, given the power and flexibility that Fusion360 offers.   While I understand that the current trend is very much towards GUI-driven design and drawing, it'd be absolutely amazing to have the command line in tandem with that - while I'm sure I'll learn the ins and outs of the GUI over time, the ability to just type in the command that I'm thinking of instead of hunting for it under a subsection of the ribbon would make life so much easier.   Surely I can't be alone in wanting to see this as a feature? I am constantly having to change the display camera view back to my preferred perspective with ortho faces. This view changes to orthographic during feature edits or when an update is received. Could we please have a blanket default view setting under the preferences tab to prevent this view switching problem. Mostrar más

I searched the Fusion 360 list of submitted idea's and I didn't find what my idea is about. This idea is for creating a camera mode that moves like a real camera in Three Dimensional Space. It could be setup so that the arrow keys control the forward and back movement as well as the side to side movement (strafe), while the mouse is used to aim those 4 movement controls in any direction. I started building a house in Fusion 360 and found out that I couldn't get the camera inside the building without hiding certain areas and features of the building structure. With a 3D Camera you could fly in through the doors, window, or walls for that matter depending on the settings that are applied to the camera. Such as, 1)Constrained movement by surfaces 1/0 setting. 2)distance before hitting walls "distance" setting. 3)speed of movement of camera "setting". 4)Camera Lens View Angle or Zoom Angle "Setting" 5)Roll Angle View "Setting". etc. I know other 3D modeling programs have this type of free flying camera view mode, so I thought it would be good to have in Fusion 360. It may be complicated to build into the program I can imagine but there are a lot of situations that need this kind of camera at the very least in rendering mode. Mostrar más

Fusion needs a way to create multiple versions of base concepts which can be developed into an eventual final design.   Current workflow for design development is to save a base model as a new file and develop multiple iterations from there. This is slow and messy.   We basically just need a different way to show multiple versions of the same base file. A 'tree' ui much like 'branch and merge' could be a good way to lay this out simply.  Mostrar más

 Hi there, First of all, kudos to Fusion 360 for venturing into the world of reverse engineering. As someone who is quite proficient in reverse engineering using Geomagic Design X, I have a few suggestions that perhaps Fusion 360 could adopt to be competitive in this aspect. This came after I watched the recently uploaded live recording of mesh to solid video where Aaron demonstrated the process involved. 1) In my humble opinion, I believe individual meshes should be selectable (the lines, vertices and faces of a mesh). 2) We do not like 'eyeballing' the dimension to create a solid. Knowing that manufactured parts come with imperfections we prefer to round off the figures to get as close to customer's spec as possible - 25.0034 can be extruded as 25 if the customer's spec is only to 2 decimal points. More on these later. Let me illustrate my point: In Geomagic Design X, the initial stage would be the same as in Fusion 360: import the mesh. From this point onward, I would suggest Fusion 360 take the approach of selectable mesh datasets. The logic being that, the data that is scanned and imported are usually aligned to the origin of the scanner. We would prefer it aligned to local coordinate system. So, select a few flat surfaces on the mesh using paint brush selection tool, create best-fit plane out of it (flatness is a perceived measurement, a surface that may look flat to our naked eyes may look rough under high accuracy scanner, with microns of deviations contributed by bacterium and imperfections, hence the best-fit plane option is necessary to average out this mesh data). Do either 3-2-1 or X-Y-Z alignment (if a part is symmetric in observation, we might prefer a plane across the middle of the part). And from here on, only do we start doing what Fusion 360 call 'create mesh section'. Again, we might want to create extra planes for mesh sketches by extracting mesh datasets as best-fit planes. This process is repeated over and over again to add, subtract etc. from the solid we would create to output a parametrically sound model. The flat surfaces of the mesh should never be eyeballed like in the video. It is considered bad practice as we never assume what we do not know of, especially when the part may be fitted into an assembly and millimeters of discrepancy (as determined by customer's spec) may spell doom to the final outcome. Also I would like to point out that the fit curves to mesh section's graphic should be overlayed on top of the cross-section of the mesh as viewed normal to the sketch plane. I'm not sure if this is just my PC because I could only see the blue sketch line when I orbit around the sketch plane using fit curves to mesh section. And I'd hope to see shortcut key to toggle view between models (for example, ctrl + 1 for sketch, ctrl + 2 for mesh, ctrl + 3 for surfaces, ctrl + 4 for solids). And one last thing, to compare overall solid to the scanned data (mesh), we would use an accuracy analyzer tool that shows the deviations between our remodeled solid and the mesh, based on our specified accuracy. If we set +-0.1 as acceptable, then it will show a color mapping of anything between +-0.1 deviation as green on the solid, and anything less than -0.1 as blue, anything more than +0.1 as red. I know this is Fusion 360, and not Geomagic Design X. I know I may be asking too drastic of a change. But take a look at some of the YouTube videos being put out there from Geomagic, their workflows when it comes to reverse engineering a scanned part. I believe there are much inspiration and improvements to be made on the reverse engineering end. Keep it up Fusion 360. Make it all-inclusive. With such a price point I look forward to a day where I can fully transition to Fusion 360 as a great software for reverse engineering purposes.   Disclaimer: I do not know if anyone has requested these stuff yet.
