If you open a file for browsing it inevitably results in a "*" after the filename if you do anything that might aid in viewing like hiding components.
SUGGESTION: if you revert the file to its initial state by using in the left arrow key (for example) the file should appear as a non-edited file, i.e. with no "*" after its name.
That will save creating another version if you have that set up to occur automatically on file closure.
