Sub-assemblies. It would be advantageous if we could have sub-assemblies, so that a series of sub-assemblies can be fabricated/constructed prior to assembling on a main/primary assembly.    A primary assembly would need to be assigned and then its attaching sub-assemblies would be associated with the primary assembly in the model. This functionality could also be used for complex welded assemblies which can be broken down into sub-assemblies for clarity.       “Assemblies and additional elements” process, by selecting the items at the detailing stage has the potential to introduce human error if not all components are selected. We require this Sub-assembly feature to be applied in the model so it can be assigned and check within the modelling process. In a lot of cases the detailer is not the same person who modelled the project, which means they would need prior knowledge of how to assemble these assemblies together.   Show More

If you use a drawing style with the option "selected parts" for selecting model objects you can't add some additional parts to the detail after it is created on the drawing.   It would be great to have an option for adding additional parts in such details.   Greetings   Joerg Show More

Within the camera, there is currently no object selection method. But within the system there are several ways to create selection sets, by search/query method , also groups can be used to select objects. Also the model browser can be set to only show elements from a model view, when active. Can this ability be linked to the cameras, so that objects from these selections methods could be linked to the camera , thus giving a dynamic input to the camera rather than a fixed selection set. So for example to activate a floor plan model view, we see the beams and the columns, but trying to do as isometric view the beam elements above and below show in the view generated, rather than just the required floor level. If there was option to say based upon model view then this would only show the elements from the model view enabled. Also if elements are added within the model view then those would then show in an updated drawing, thus removing the issue of selected parts and not be able to update the initial selection set. Same if there was option to link with a query or a group, these searches and groups can be run and updated also, as the model progresses. This would then link in with the other uses of searches for status of objects for approval, lot and phase reference, fabrication data. Show More

With the new AS 2018 version and the database format changes, there is no direct method to “merge” databases for the current version. When you want to transfer a specific customization from one system to other(s), you have to use SQL Management Studio. But you need to learn how to use SQL and scripts / queries.   The feature request would be to have an additional option inside Management Tools called (as example) “Merge tool” that should do this process automatically: - The user selects the source database and then the Merge tool should merge it automatically to the current AS database(s) - The user should be able to see the tables that are different and to select which ones should be merged (All / None / Select) - The Merge tool should be able to work for any AS database   Thank you very much   Best regards, Emy Show More

Over and over again we must export Advance Steel models in STEP. The workflow in addition is very costly. First one must explode the Advance Steel model in volume body, then export the exploded model with AutoCAD to ACIS and then export the file ACIS in STEP with another programme. Please add gauge thicknesses under the "Thickness" pulldown when creating plates. Cut beams and plates at a line. A command to cut an item (beam or plate) at a desired line rather than using the “polygon cut” or “shorten to UCS” command, which requires you to change the UCS to the cutting plane then cut the item. With this command the current view’s Z axis would determine the cutting plane.   Show More

Hello, Autodesk, At the moment one can use only following variables in the drawing name: Drawing number, position number, sequence number, single part number, model name and assembly. Hello, Autodesk,   unfortunately, there is in Advance Steel still no possibility that with the update of parts lists suitable revision indexes are created. This would be really very important! From the principle it should function in such a way, as with drawings. 1. The name of the parts list receives a suitable addition, so that is to be recognised that the parts list has changed. 2. In the parts list all changed parts are selected accordingly, e.g., by another colour or formatting like bold or italics 3. A check table would be nice, however, is not necessary urgent. 4. I would like to suggest that when you run your clash check and the dialog box comes up with all your clashes that you have the ability to select multiple lines of clashes to use the 'Ignore Object' button - these are typically ones that you know are all the same such as at a purlin/girt laps. It would be very helpful for site and shop bolts to automatically be placed on different layers. You could designate different colors for the layers which would make it easy to immediately notice what type of bolts are in your model. We currently do this manually, but that has an element of human error to it. Show More

Hello,   Many users would like to have the railing macro improved, below are the items summarized and items added,     please implement this as soon as possible, railing macro is not done right:     Option Mid-rails to be polybeams (by dcubbedge)   Railing does not have an option for splitting into segments, usually 20'-0. (submitted by nialb)   When handrail and grab rails are polybeams-radius of bending has to be the inner radius, not the system line radius.   Bents / elbows if ordered are always classified into 1" IR, 2"IT etc.    Same if bent "inhouse"-shop has a few standard raddi of bending-INNER radii, not at system line.   ALL HEIGHTS for handrails and grabrails have to be taken from the nosing line, what a shmako idea to get the heights from the top of the stringers even when sloped. Hello, If you try to change the drawing style (DS) of an existing detail by applying a DS with a different number of views, you get an error message: The drawing styles are not compatible. The numbers of views don't match. and you cannot continue.   The feature request would be like that: As long as I am trying to apply a different DS from the same category as the original DS (SP with SP, MP with MP, Overview with Overview), I should be able to do it. The DSs should be compatible when they have the same "Model object selection" option, regardless the number of views. The new DS will take all the info about the "Model object selection" from the original detail and will apply the new DS accordingly.   Thank you very much Emy Show More
