A search for "link display settings" yields 50 results, with 40+ of those all along the same lines with "link visibility settings" hitting similar numbers, IE: We need a better way to handle this tedious and time consuming task. What task? Setting Visibility settings for links. Some of those are for API access to these settings (which was partially implemented, but setting visibility by Category falls short across the API as a whole for both host categories and link categories as neither allows for toggling Category "Groups" as a whole as can be done in the UI and the new option for links doesn't even touch category visibility, just by host view or by linked view). So let's look at the problem. There is no way to preconfigure, in a model or a template, what will be visible or not visible by default for a project before a link is attached or even afterwards for that matter. This needs to be changed. It could be set up similar to the option for default visibility of a workset IE: visible in all views or hidden in all views by default, although with RVT Links it would be more like the VG settings that you get for views: Just give us the ability to set the values as the default for all views and view templates for all links prior to actually linking in a model (and preferably being able to do so in a project template). In most projects in our firm we want all Categories of the Annotation categories group to be off in all of our documentation views as well as most other views with them being set to "Show" in a very small number of views for coordination. Similarly, we rarely want to see the Categories of the "Analytical Model Categories" group from a link except for very rare occasions. Just setting these two groups to be hidden on half a dozen links in dozens of views and view templates can take a considerable amount of time. These presets need to show every Category group that could possibly be within a link with the notable exceptions of Worksets and Design Options (since those will be named and used differently in every model and can't realistically be pre-configured). But even those that can't be pre-configured should have the option of configuring them as defaults for all views and view templates within the host project model for each link instead of having to set them for each link in each and every view and/or view template. Furthermore, the API, both for direct host models and for links, needs access to these groups to be able to set them as groups instead of having to set each category of each group individually. Moderators, can all of those votes for all of the different versions of this request be combined so that a realistic number for the underlying need can be taken into consideration? -Gary
