It would be great to add an option in "Document Settings" -> tab "Units", to set a different unit for tolerances (in 3D), as shown in the picture below.     A lot of watchmaker companies work with millimeter for global dimension and micron for tolerance. It means that 3,000 ±0.005 is written 3.000 ±5 in sketch, MDB or drawing dimensions.   The goal is to display and calculate tolerances in micron or whatever unit set without being linked to the "Length" unit. I've had this happen a couple times where I need to represent multiple options/variations of a certain design and the way I need to do that is to show a couple different versions of the same detail or section. I can accomplish this by setting up some dummy views off the page and then referencing a second copy of the detail onto my drawing from the dummy version which would be set to a different model view / model state... but this presents opportunities for making mistakes, and makes me feel like I'm having a bunch of extra views that I don't get generated for nothing.   What I'd like to see to resolve this work around would be: 1. To have the ability to create multiple details/sections from the same reference source 2. Have the section/aux/detail views be able to represent different model states/view states than the base view it's attached to 3. Have all of the various copies of the detailed views / section views get their window information and labeling (eg. The detail window location and the fact that it's Detail B) remain connected to the original detail... so I don't have to go around making sure they're all still consistent/correct.   Example 1: Using a dummy view to show a different model state of a detail view Example 2: Putting multiple sections onto the same dummy view so that I can show three view / model states of that section. Currently, the Replace Model Reference feature treats each model state instance as a separate model. if multiple model states are used in a drawing, one must replace each reference separately. If the ability is added to select multiple references to replace it could save trime. Show More

Idea Summary: In Inventor drawing views, it should be possible to fully disable shadows. This would help keep white-colored parts truly white, especially for printed output where white is used to make components stand out clearly.   Full Explanation: When creating 2D drawings of assemblies, I sometimes use color to highlight new parts that need to be added to an existing setup. For contrast, I leave the existing parts in plain white — since on paper, white areas appear uncolored and help focus attention on the colored parts. Currently, the only way to do this is by creating a View Representation where I manually set the parts to white. However, shadows are sometimes still applied during drawing updates, which causes those white parts to appear gray or shaded. This reduces the clarity of the drawing, especially in prints. It would be very useful to have a toggle in the drawing view settings that fully disables all shadows — either globally for the view, or for selected parts. This would allow true white to stay white, improve print quality, and give better visual contrast for highlighted components. It would be truly helpful to have the possibility to insert standard bolted connections to models within frame generator. I know that there is software like Tekla structures and Autodesk structual detailing, but you don't have to design whole buildings before it is necessary to use bolted connections. Currently, it is possible to add only half dimension, and it is probably related to how the ellipse is created (defining the center point of the ellipse, etc). It would be great if when working in a 2D sketch, either part or drawing, to auto (intelligently) swap the horizontal and vertical constraint button functions.   For example, when I start a sketch looking directly at the front view in a part everything works as intended. Lines snap to horizontal with the horizontal constraint. Vertical lines snap to vertical with the vertical constraint.   If the view is now rotated 90 degrees, the lines snap to vertical with the horizontal constraint and horizontal with the vertical constraint.   Whilst this is correct function with respect to the planes / UCS etc, it is a pain when editing sketches as Inventor regularly rotates the view during edit to what it thinks is the orientation required (not always the case!) The only way to show a leader with iProperties on a part in which none of its edges are visible is to create a 3D Leader and then Retrieve Model Annotations. However those leaders are unable to be edited. While editing retrieved annotations would also be a useful feature, I need the ability to place a leader on the face of a part.    Typically, leaders not directly touching a line are shown with a dot or an oblique symbol instead of the arrow. At the moment, if the user wants to change the shading mode of a specific part or component in a drawing view, they have to do it through an overlay combined with view reps. This is clunky and takes extra unnecessary steps, while it can be easily available in the drawing environment in the context menu/right-click on a part in the browser or canvas and change the shading mode to make an exception/override that of the view. Original Title: Custom section marks In order to follow my company's standards, I need to draw my own section mark lines. (See attached picture.)   In AutoCAD, we had a LISP routine to automate it - there were three clicks to input points. First click gave us the starting point, the end of the line with the circle. The 2nd click gave us the other end of the line. The 3rd click decided the direction the arrow pointed. After that, it prompted us for the section label ("A") and the sheet number ("S1").   I've figured out how to make the circles with numbers with prompted entries, but don't know how to draw the line and arrows without them being a fixed predetermined length and direction in a sketched symbol.   This would need to input similar to a leader line with multiple input points, which from what I can tell, sketched symbols are a single input point.   I really don't need for it to pull in the sheet number or section label automatically - I'm fine with manually inputting them with a prompt.     Original Author Anonymous from ‎03-13-2013 Show More
