Hi,   Started a new role with a company using Inventor.  Used to use Solidworks for a couple of years previously.   One thing I got used to was the 'width mate'.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFiPxAMmxKc  sums it up best.  Basically it's very easy to symetrically position a componeent within an assembly between two faces, without needing to add any extra planes etc.  (the video is far more better at explaining it!).     I cannot find anything like it in inventor.  Would be appreciative to see this incorporated into a service pack update.  Would help immensely in work flow and productivity. Hi everyone  I'm coming from AutoCAD, now i'm using Inventor and I really enjoy it. I don't regret the change, but I don't understand why such a good 3D software like Inventor is missing some basic surfacing tools that autocad have like: Planar, Network and Blend Surface, it is not a big deal, I know there is other ways to accomplish what this tools can do, but have them in hand are very useful.  I think that such a good 3D Mechanical CAD like Inventor deserves better and more technical surfacing tools. My Idea is about I would like to see in a future some of these basic tools integrated in Inventor. If you have better or more suggestion, you're welcome to list them below. It's great that we have different options to customize exporting to AutoCAD, but I feel that this process could be made even better.   How about an option that will place the border/titleblock in paperspace and place the geometry in modelspace...and then assign viewports in paperspace that match your views in Inventor?   Modelspace would scale everything at 1:1. Space contents of each original view out appropriately so that you don't have geometry on top of each other due to having multiple scales in the original.   Paperspace would grab your titleblock at 1:1 (automatically selecting your paper size, like 24x36).   Each view in Inventor (base, projected, section, detail, etc) is treated as a new viewport in paperspace and everything ends up appropriately scaled as you see it in your Inventor drawing.   Give us options to include annotations in either modelspace or paperspace - if in modelspace, dimension styles would be set up to scale text appropriately for each viewport. If in paperspace, all text is 1:1. While we are at it, convert Inventor's leaders to multileaders and convert text to multitext so these can be easily manipulated with the mleaderstyles and such.   This would save hours of cleanup for clients who have very picky standards and do not accept Inventor files. in the 2012 release there was a RMB option to open a dwg belonging to the clicked part when selected directly from the assembly tree. Similarly it was possible to open the dwg by right-clicking on a part in the assembly window view and selecting this option.  You have decided to remove this functionality int he 2014 release, and now it is only possible to open the dwg of the top level part/assy. Opening the dwg of a part in the tree can only be achieved by first having opened it (not by editing in assy).  This more time consuming and not a very comfortable way of working.  In addition, the likely workaround of adding the "open dwg" button or function to the ribbon or the marking menu is of no use. You can add the button but it doesn't locate the file. Instead it only opens the last directory opened. (Similar to wanting to open a dwg that doesn't exist.)  Please re-enable the open dwg function properly. It is often much easier to visually locate a component rather than having to plow through all the names in a part list trying to find the component you needed. With kind regards,  Misha Show More

We often have to neck down our through hole when drilling gauge taps due to limited space, and it'd be nice if we could control the through hole's diameter and tap drill depth in one hole feature / hole note.   An example note with auto-populated fields in brackets: [Ø.63] THRU [Ø.891] X [.88 MAX] [3/4 - 14 NPT]   It may be asking too much, however, as I believe the challenge would be the current availability of symbols in the hole note dialog.   Show More
