There is a discrepancy between being able to notch tubes off of one another and merging the tubes within the frame generator when the frame is first designed. I have an assembly where multiple tubes need to notch off of one another. When the frame was first designed, I used the merge tubes function in the frame generator because that's how the tubes will be sent off to our tube bender / cutter in our fabrication shop. I wanted these tubes to represent how it would be sent off in real life. However, when the tubes are merged, there's a problem with how the notching tool works when trying to create a cope. For example, tube #1 needs to use tube #2 as a tool for the cope to be complete, but tube #2 is contacting tube #1 in multiple places and needs to be coped accordingly. When I select tube #2 with the frame merged, it selects the entire tube as the "notching tool". This then creates the first contact point notch correctly, but then uses the other contact point to cut into tube #1 incorrectly. Essentially, tube #1 needs to be coped using tube #2 as a tool, then tube #2 needs to be coped using tube #1 as a tool. To remedy this, I recreated the frame in frame generator without merging the tubes. This way I only had to select the one section of tube #2 to complete the coping/notch for tube #1. Then vice versa. This is where the request comes in. There needs to be a way to create the frame without merging the tubes in the beginning. After all of the copes/notches are complete, then you should be able to merge the tubes so that you can display the whole tube in a drawing and export it as a step to my tube cutting/bending operator. When producing orientation drawing for tanks etc it gets messy very quickly using conventional angular dimensions. That's why there is a need for angular ordinate dimensions currently I do this using the ordinate dimension then over riding the value then importing the parameter needed so its linked but this is time consuming. It would be truly helpful to have the possibility to insert standard bolted connections to models within frame generator. I know that there is software like Tekla structures and Autodesk structual detailing, but you don't have to design whole buildings before it is necessary to use bolted connections. Original Title: Custom section marks In order to follow my company's standards, I need to draw my own section mark lines. (See attached picture.)   In AutoCAD, we had a LISP routine to automate it - there were three clicks to input points. First click gave us the starting point, the end of the line with the circle. The 2nd click gave us the other end of the line. The 3rd click decided the direction the arrow pointed. After that, it prompted us for the section label ("A") and the sheet number ("S1").   I've figured out how to make the circles with numbers with prompted entries, but don't know how to draw the line and arrows without them being a fixed predetermined length and direction in a sketched symbol.   This would need to input similar to a leader line with multiple input points, which from what I can tell, sketched symbols are a single input point.   I really don't need for it to pull in the sheet number or section label automatically - I'm fine with manually inputting them with a prompt.     Original Author Anonymous from ‎03-13-2013 Show More

With all of the options there are for importing igs, step and parasolid parts into Inventor, there are no options to select which template should be used once this part is imported.  Quite often a user will have different templates depending on the operation or units being used.  There should be an addition under the open dialog to allow a user to select which template they would like to use.  Whether it is a custom one or the default out of the box.  Just give us the freedom to select.   Original Author: Cadmanto   8/2/2013 Show More

Dear Autodesk Development Team and Community, I am an active user of Autodesk Inventor and would like to propose a feature that I believe would significantly enhance the usability of the software. In CAD software like Fusion 360 or SolidWorks, there is a feature that allows real-time dynamic dimension display when a user simply selects geometry (lines, arcs, planes, etc.). This is incredibly convenient because it eliminates extra clicks for measurements and allows users to quickly access the necessary geometric information without having to invoke additional tools like Measure. Currently, in Inventor, to check, for instance, the length of a line, the workflow involves several steps: Select the Measure tool in the Inspect menu. Click on the element to view the measurement in a separate dialog box. This process requires more time and distracts from the design flow. What do I propose? Implement functionality that displays the dimension (length, angle, radius, etc.) immediately upon selecting an element in the workspace (similar to Fusion 360). Optionally, allow users to toggle this functionality on or off based on their preferences. What are the benefits? Significant improvement in productivity. A more intuitive user experience, especially for quick geometry analysis. Alignment with modern CAD system standards. Thank you for your attention! When editing another person's work - especially exploded views - it can be quite a challenge to see what order their Tweaks were placed and how they affect each other. In many cases the only resolution is to delete them and start again. On a complex exploded view this can take a lot of time.   It would be very helpful to have a marker similar to the EOP marker in the .IPT environment within the .IPN environment. This would allow "stepping" through the Tweaks to see where a part / component was moved - without Inventor processing all of the other Tweaks below it.   Thanks for the consideration. How could I switch fully load to express load while the assembly is open in inventor so that I can save some computer space and gain faster speed?   Autodesk Inventor Re-copy Model i-Properties to Drawing:   There was a nice case on the Autodesk Inventor Forum about the possibility to automatically update copied i-properties from the model to the drawing when these properties have changed. To my opinion this is a missing feature in the Autodesk Inventor software, because it is now a one time copy and not a life update/Re-copy. If the model properties change after drawing creation these will not be updated accordingly.   Maybe this is a good idea for future releases of Autodesk Inventor!   With this simple Inventor add-in the properties selected will update on save event of Inventor. The ability to select all broken sketch projections (and delete them) has been a great addition to Inventor. Unfortunately, this workflow is incapable of deleting projected points if they're constrained to the endpoint of a sketch curve.  This goal of this idea is to remove this limitation, so these points are deleted along with the other objects.     The current solution for this situation is to... Right-click > "show all constraints", then go around deleting the leftover projection constraints, one by one. Alternatively, you can window select them all and right-click > "delete constraints", but that risks deleting others that you might want to keep! Lastly, reference points disappear completely once the projection constraint is gone.  Center Points will remain but will be "unbroken".  This nuance doesn't really bother me.   Whether these limitations are intentional -- and why? -- I have no idea, but we deal with this often enough that we wrote an iLogic rule to take care of it.  Now we can blast away every broken projection in the model with one click if we want to.   My point is it shouldn't have to be like that -- I bet there's plenty of people out there that could benefit from this simple change.  Please Vote!   Show More
