Having an Aluminum and Stainless Steel material library is necessary for fabrication shops. I know you can add general libraries, but those do not add the properties needed in the model to show correct connections and weights. We need structural shapes like beams, channels, and angles.    Also, The KISS file standards need to be updated. Advanced Steel currently only produces a "D" line in a kiss file. It needs to produce all of the lines, so drawings do not have to be manually entered into Fabtrol MRP.        Show More

I read most of the treads about kiss files on the forums and I think we are due for an update.   I received many request over the past years, from multiple customer in North-America and a lot of fabricators are using Kiss standards.   From the different existing request, yes having the bolts and fasteners will be great! but we should also think of revision mark as the example below. Remove the constraint that a handrail has to be attached to something, or at least make concrete and a Polyline items that a railing can be attached too. In order to attached a railing to a concrete slab or stair, you have to create a dummy object. It seems to me to be a waste of time to have to do this, and it doesn't make sense either. Show More

Hi again, I am writing regarding a client. He writes” How come every time I model a ladder the default is 30’-0 height, and not the height the value between the first and second point picked. Example if I wanted to create a 4’-0 ladder, I would like to pick my start point, then go up 4’-0 and click. Currently if I try that it will start my ladder the first point clicked then a 30’-0” ladder is drawn. It would be nice to be able to pick a start point and an end to define ladder height automatically rather than having to go into the macro and change the height. Currently there is no direct link or correlation between a beam orientation in detail drawing and the orientation in NC / DXF file. When the NC orientation does not match the detailing orientation, it is difficult on the fabrication process to review each NC file and detail drawing. The workflow to ensure these orientations match is to use the NC orientation as reference (since it cannot be altered by user), and to set the detailing direction to match the NC orientation.  For reference, there is an article with additional info about the current behaviour: Is it possible to get the same member orientation in NC / DXF file and in assembly drawing in Advance Steel ? The feature request is to implement an option or a mechanism to link the element orientations in detail and NC / DXF files, so to be sure the orientations match. As example, an additional option in Drawing Style Manager on the “View arrangement” page, next to “Orientation of the beam end” and “Orientation of the views”.   Ideally, when activate the option, the NC orientation should be changed, to match the drawing style settings; however, the DSTV-NC orientation rules must always be respected. For symmetrical section (like I, Rectangular Hollow Section), it should be possible for any DS setting. For non-symmetrical section (like Channel): if it is possible, then the NC orientation should match the detailing orientation. If it is not possible, than the NC orientation has priority, and the detailing direction will follow.   Thank you very much Emy Show More

Advance Steel needs projected 3d Gridlines like any other 3d program. You shouldn't have to copy the same grid to every level. The current workflow is outdated and requires way too much manual work to get something as basic as grids working in plans and elevations, when you want to have plans of two or more separate levels. Currently, bent plates are NOT exported in IFC regardless of format (2x3 or EM.11, neither show bent plate).  We use tons of bent plate, I don't feel encouraged to use IFC for BIM coordination.  I currently explode the model to solids for coordination, which is less than ideal.  It also means I can't use IFC for fabrication info (plasma, press brake, etc).  Please fix. There is the good tool - Store used data (command ASTORPUSHUSEDDATATOMODEL), thas allow to exchange model with objects based on customized database. I would like to see you change the behaviour of multiple menus / features so they work in the same way.    Today "Element Contour, UCS" workflow is: Click on button -> Click on item to be modified -> Click on reference item. -> Done Today "Miter" workflow is: Click on button -> Click on item 1 -> Enter / Right click -> Click o item 2 -> Enter / right click. -> Done   Could you make it the same? I don't care either way, I just find it annoying to right click in the middle of a command that doesn't require so, or keep clicking on items in a command that requires right click, because I can't remember which is which.  Show More

Many have had this ongoing issue when plotting/batch plotting drawings from advance steel. There is only a workaround by using file renaming software which is a poor solution. There have been numerous requests for this issue to be resolved and no headway has been made. See the attached screenshot and look at drawing 102 this doesn't have the advance steel naming at the end of the pdf. This happens When using our Prototypes: UK-FOUND-A1 & UK-FOUND-A0.  Therefore there is a hint that this can be done on Autodesk's part. Yes, I have customised our drawing output name strategy but this hasn't changed/removed the advance steel naming at the end of the file name.     Show More

Custom Connection Templates have been a useful part of our workflow.  However, we have found many situations where they are limited.  Additional enhancements to the custom connection options in Advance Steel would open up many possibilities for users.   The biggest issue is the lack of parametric custom connection options that reference another object.  Currently there are only two options for this: “beam on object reference to object” and “plate on object reference to object”.  These options only allow the added beam/plate to be on the flanges of the members.  The following options would go a long way towards opening up possible custom connections:   Beam/plate on object reference to object along the web (parallel and perpendicular options) Bolt/anchor/hole/shearstud on object reference to object (with option to attach other objects) Ability to use use a command similar to arraypath along an advance steel beam, plate, etc. (perhaps this should be a separate feature request...) It should be possible to replicate any standard connection by putting a couple of custom connections together to make a Custom Connection Template.  Currently this is not possible due to limited custom connection options.  If this were possible, we would be able to make almost any connection we can dream up.
