Since years there are a lot of unanswered requests for many improvements of basic tools. Such as usability of Node Graph, Hypershade, Construction history, Bevel, TimeEditor with Blendshapes, Containers, Rigs, Viewport, Performance, compatibilities between different packages of Maya or with I/O... just to name a few topics of my scope. On the other hand all developement resources seem to go into Bifrost (*at least from what I see), which does only help for a narrow field of tasks and will only help a few people. Please start overhauling Maya in the basics. When I need Houdini, I will just download it, but when I use Maya, I want it to be reliable fast software with great UI and interoperability.
