Update Nurbs modeling in Maya, Its 2021 and the tools are 20 years old and could use some updating

Update Nurbs modeling in Maya, Its 2021 and the tools are 20 years old and could use some makeover. A lot of modelers dont need the full complexity of Alias but still want to model quality nurbs surfaces without requiring a second software package to do so. And please make conversion of subd just like in Alias currently which is how it should be in Maya too for hybrid workflow

I remember I asked Autodesk to do this at least 5 years ago.

Me too. I've asked this and an idea similar to this forum. 

I will like to see an upgrade.

It’s frustrating to be the Maya modeler in the pipeline who can’t do simple Alias moves to put the finishing touches on the converted subd models. It makes us look incompetent and requires another person with a working Alias license to do trivial tasks that I could do as well but I can’t because Mayas nurbs toolset and conversion algorithm is hopelessly outdated and ridiculously limited in its scope and performance. Why does Alias now have full hybrid workflow  and Maya doesn’t even get a proper Nurbs workflow to begin with? Half the tools Maya has crash most of the time and are a pain in the ass to use properly. There are no modern tool options or integrated UX workflows that help to make things convenient and snappy as to quickly prototype an idea to be able to show off a presentation to the customers. HardMesh is kind of the middle ground there but it’s not the real deal for many situation when there is a pipeline afterwards that needs to be considered. Alias is overkill for basic surface operations ala MOI which can be bought for 300 bucks. I don’t want  secondary software i want Maya to just use it’s full potential. The framework already exists. Use it Autodesk

Autodesk wouldn't want to steal business from their precious Autocad or Fusion 360. So they won't improve Maya's NURBS modeling.

while I know what you are getting at it needs to be mentioned that AutoCAD and Fusion360 both have a completely different target demographic and use cases. There is no overlap and ultimately the counter argument fails on many levels. It’s in AD’s best interest to make sure that interoperability between Maya and Alias is as consistent, tight and pipeline friendly as possible since it gives Maya an insurmountable edge over free alternatives like Blender. Also AutoCAD is simply not Maya and a Maya chair user can’t and won’t use either AutoCAD or Fusion for the subd Nurbs workflow and rendering / animation. That doesn’t make any sense

@aerys.bat also I’m not asking for Nurbs modeling on the level of either I’m asking for the most basic functions that Maya already has to be updated and made more robust so it reflects modern standards that is long surpassed by multi platform cheap alternatives like MOI3D. Especially now that Alias offers pretty good poly modeling support which would according to your logic technically eat into Maya sales. So apparently AD already realize that there isn’t an overlap

Yes. I think they will be finish the project and the tools there are that in my opinion are stopped developing for some priority reason that i don't understand and now i don't care about the priority they have. I don't car about the business of usd(is a big vfx industry request) not from user. On my workflow i never get benefit from USD. and for shure not for the future if i'm stand in automotive field for design and style modeling.

Why MASH could be important on my daily job?

Because of the distribution. Radial for the Car RIM, other pattern for pattern on surface. Duplicate on curve path.

But it fails, in my opinion, because is not finish yet and because they don't care about the workflow. They don't care about the(in my opinion) real user that without the help of internal programmer and developer trying to solve the problem everyday. 

My hint is exagerated? Not because it's about the 2008 version that this has begun. And i'm tired out.

All other words all other features, speculation exscuse, they don't matter.

Absolutely agree. Many functions need to be improved and updated since nurbs modeling is the only one with extreme precision and with maya directly convertible into polygons. It would also be brilliant to use solids like in Rhino. The fillet and the circles should be updated (just to mention two cases) and simplified. It is absurd not to have the snap tangent for example. I still think that Maya is a great software, just a few updates, otherwise not complicated in terms of nurbs modeling, would be enough

Unfortunately Autosesk is not competing with Blender and Belnder will never take away from Autodesk. While yes Blender is a free software and you can go use it but if you want a real job doing real animation, rigging and modeling work you better know Maya as Blender is not going to get you into a VFX Studio working on a real project. But Maya with all its flaws will get you that job. Not aingle major film uses a pipeline that makes sense so you should embrace that and get used to it instead of coming here complaining to company that is not worried about you the user looking at Blender as an alternative. They are just to nice to come on the thread and be so blunt.
