Importing an image plane or video for the background too difficult

If Maya can only recognize any file format of image sequence or video clip that you import into the image plane. I find it very difficult to get the right compression so that a video clip can work or have the right numbering format for an image sequence.  It should be able to handle mp4, Prores, h264 etc.

I am having the same problem. I have the file compressed in AVI and MOV I still can't get it to play in the newest Maya. I am wondering if this problem is only on people that have windows PCs.

Hi I found a solution, old but it works;

Install the last version of quick time frome apple website: https://support.apple.com/kb/dl837?locale=it_IT

You don't need the player but just the codec; after the installation, open maya and you can use playblast or import video as mov or h264

however, as of now, I don't understand why autodesk doesn't implement these codecs on maya

Giuseppe, you lord you..you actual walking Maya savior. Thank you. I just did what you explained and it totally worked. You literally solved a two-year problem I had. Thank you again.  I never thought Quicktime would be the answer. Seriously good looking out.
