When creating a new sketch, I click the plane I want to sketch on and Inventor does the animation where it spins the view around for me to start sketching. Sometimes at this point I am disorientated and end up sketching in the wrong direction. I was thinking that once I clicked on a plane and it had finished rotating it would be nice if four words appeared saying ’front,’ ’back,’ ’left,’ and ’right’ that would then fade away after a few seconds. The viewcube only displays ’top’ which isn’t obvious as to which side the front is on. I know you can later specify which view is front and top but I’d rather just sketch it right in the first place.

Hello Dear Frnds, I had around 10 crashes in 3 hrs with Inv 2013 while doing a sketch on a part face which in an assembly. My undo file sizr in Application options is 4095 and I dont know why it is crashing, can you guys please fix this issue. Thanks AD

Hello there, I regret and feel bad to say updated Inventor 2013 SDK files are not good. I have downloaded latest Inventor 2013 SDK files from Autodesk Network Dev website as suggested by Brain Ekins in Mod the Machine Blog. Can some body from Autodeks ADN, please update these SDK files and post them Again on ADN website... Templates from Registry free addins in this link are working fine I think. If I am wrong Please Correct me.

There are many discussions about the uniformity of case, either UPPER CASE or Title Case. In my case, I didn't care necessarily which way, but I wanted it to be *the same*. I based our first stab at a drawing template on the included ANSI IDW template and here are some notes and their cases: View Titles (Section, Aux View) - UPPERCASE Hole Descriptions (THRU) - UPPERCASE Chamfer Leader - Title Case Table Titles (Rev Table, Hole Table, Parts List, etc) - UPPERCASE Material (pulled from component) - Title Case Mass (pulled from component, lbmass) - lowercase It seemed to me that changing all of the annotation styles was easier than creating a new material library and I didn't know if I could change "lbmass", so I went this route. However, if someone is interested in uniformity, there's a fair bit of work to do, regardless of whether you're going with UPPER CASE or Title Case.

Hi, The material for piroute in T&P assemblies is marked as error in the "Assign Materials" dialogue, nevertheless the "Simulate" command is applicable. It would be nice to suppress this error information for piroute in default like shown for piruns and pirun in T&P assemblies. Best regards Detlef

All the parts visible in this image have the same material - Steel, Mild - applied to them with no edits made to anything. The angles (the dark colored bits) come from the Content Center, the plate (the light colored bit) was modeled. Why are the colors not the same?

Have the simple check / unceck option in the drawing parameters tab just like in Model files. This saves making a ilogic code to fire them in the custom propertys. cheers, Jachin

Selection of parts and assemblies schould be improved in drawing environment. It schould be possible to select parts and assemblies that are pattern elements by selectiong this pattern. Now it is not possible because patterns can not be selected at all. I personally have quite o problem with this issue because I often have a lot of small objects in patterns that are members of other patterns, and selecting them all is really time and effort consuming task. Extreemly anoying also. Also it would be useful if not only parts could be selected by selecting line in drawing but also assemblies. If an assembly concists of several parts and in some view is sectioned in the way that it obscures this vewe user may want to hide this assembly. But now one can only select individual parts of this assembly by selecting unwanted line. Also it would be usefull to hav an option that would allow to select all instances of given assembly or part in a drawing. It could work like this. One selects given part or assembly in browser, right clicks and selects "select all iv view". Doing so it would make it more aeasy to change apearence of all parts of the same kind at once. Cris.

We use a lot of I-Parts and I-Assemblies, and some of those I-Assemblies are Weldments. I have mentioned this in the Discussion Group for Inventor, but most comments ask why an I-Assembly would need to set the Material I-Property. Perhaps a standard Assembly has no need of this, but a Weldment I-Assembly needs a viable Material I-Property so the welds can follow the material changes via the Table. Currently I can place the Material in my tables, but Inventor always pops up a notice that it detects potentially damaging errors in the table. I tell it to continue anyway, and my welds update to the material setting for that row in the table. We need this functionality to operate seamlessly. It shouldn't be that hard to add this at least for Weldment Assemblies.

In drawing enviroment, the symbol of surface state don't remember last value. Every new symbol inserted require redigit the value again. Also missing the symbol summarizing the roughness design.

SImliar to the newer cloud based FEA and rendering options with Autodesk 360 I would like similar functionallity with large models and their drawings. I'm thinking that I would start a new drawing and place the views, setting the scale and such but the actual view generation happens in the cloud and I am notified by email when its done This would allow me to offload drawings that take a long time to update Mike

Why does 'export face' not work on flat patterns of iPart members?? I mean, it clearly works, all the way up to the point where you hit OK after tyoing the filename to save it as. If the sheet metal iPart member can be unfolded, and the command can be run, and even gets all the way thru the save-as dialog... why not make it actually work? We use lots of sheet metal iParts, and every time I need to send one out to the plasma cutter, I have to save the part as a bunk temp file, delete the table to make it a normal part, and then do the 'export face' command from the temp part. Im sure this is a bug, and not a purposeful limitation. It negates alot of the benefit we would otherwise gain from the use of iParts. 😞

An option to incorporate .wav, .ogg, and/or .flac into a project? Audio would no doubt add a whole new level of realism to any project or professional presentation. If it were possible to assign a .flac file to a point of contact between surfaces that reacted to the speed / stress / heat, a specific sound could be heard at the appropriate rate of speed / pitch. Metal would "clink!" when coming into contact with metal, for example. Audio could also be positioned at points and played. It would be safe to assume that no one using Autodesk Inventor is using their PC speaker for audio. I'm only a recent graduate of CAD so maybe there's a feature in Inventor that does exactly this that I have yet to find any information about? If there is, I apologize for wasting your time. If not, then I sincerely thank you for taking the time to contemplate / consider / implement this idea and wish you a fantastic 2013!

I would like to see a second "reference" occurrence. I like to show motions on an idw by patterning components and making one instance reference. Since the customers part on my gages is reference also and must be shown in red phantom the are all red phantom. By creating a second Reference occurrence I could set my motions to the second Ref. and make that show up as purple phantom. This is the way I have to make it appear in autocad for the customer so it would make it a lot easier and look better if I could do it right in Inventor. Thanks

I have complex geometry in AutoCAD, which I can copy to Inventor as a sketchblock, and use this for feature creation. It would be great if I was able to modify this geometry using the tools in AutoCAD, because making a similar modification with the sketching tools in Inventor on an unconstrained sketch would be near impossible to do. AutoCAD is great for manipulating geometry that is not constrained in any way. With the 'Modify' tools and the ability to modify the UCS, I can make manipulations very quickly. These same Modify tools in the Inventor sketch environment are near useless on unconstrained geometry, and using the Precise Input option is a complete nightmare.

Hey Guys, great initiative here! I just started working with animations in Inventor and nothing seems to be working as I would expect. Obviously some of this is just a matter of training but when I've done the same in the past with Solid Works and it was alot more logical. I'll elaborate: I have an assembly containing 5 modules with walls and a roof. The animation I'm trying to create is to have each module fade in entirely, the walls and roof fade to 10 percent, then assemble to the next one in line. I set it up for that everything is faded to 0 instantaneously to start except that the walls are appearing as solid for the entire animation and the interior components are hidden. Basically I would expect that regardless of what was done down the animation line that it would have no affect on these components. I'm in the forums now to try and figure out how to do this, i just think that it shouldn't be this complicated based on my past experiences. The other thing is the new materials and appearances also share a certain added complexity which I don't believe was entirely warranted. But I guess the same would apply with adequate training. Thanks for your efforts, I'm seeing alot more stable API with 2013 compared to 2011.
