If the only purpose for an IPN file is to create an exploded view, why not incorporate the tools needed to make an exploded view right into the assembly files.  This way there is no extra files created.  Then in the drawing you could have an option in the edit view dialog to show the view exploded based on the exploded configuration in the assembly. Occasionally I find myself in a situation where I'm halfway through dimensioning a drawing, and then realise I've used the wrong dimension style for the situation. What I would like is that when you change the dimension style, a dialogue appears that asks 'update all existing dimensions? Y/N'. If you answer 'yes', then every dimension currently placed in the drawing updates to the newly selected style. If 'no', then behaviour carries on as it does now. Show More

We have found the following. The files of drawings are increasing in the course of the project. With each change to the model or to the drawings themselves, the file size increases. The files will reach in some cases up to 100 MB. The time to save such a drawing file is then very long.   Although all content will be deleted from the drawing file (all views, all signature fields, all the frames) the file size will not be smaller.   There should be a function that allows the drawing files will be cleaned to reduce the file size again.   In the picture you can see the used template called "Norm.dwg" with a size of 616 kB. The Projectfile "Project.dwg" has contained some views of an model. There have been done many changes at the model and at the drawing themselve. So the file size increases step by step. Now the drawing is empty (all views are deleted) but the file size is still 98.274 KB.   Show More

I would be surprised if this hasn't been requested yet but I am looking for the ability to constrain sketch geometry to sketch geometry from another sketch similar to constraining sketch geometry to an edge where the geometry is auto projected for you. Currently, if you want to constrain your sketch geometry to a previous sketch you would have to first project the sketch geometry from the previous sketch and then constrain your current sketch geometry to the project sketch geometry. This is many extra clicks. It would be much more efficient to be able to activate your constrain command such a collinear constraint and when you click on the sketch geometry from a previous sketch the software would automatically project that sketch geometry to your new sketch and the constraint would be placed. The current Inventor methodology of first projecting the necessary part edges, then duplicating that work by covering those same projected edges with line/arc/spline entities in order to be capable of selecting them for extruded/revolved/swept/lofted surface features is tedious, monotonous, and completely unnecessary. Autodesk needs to remedy this eggregious oversight by simply allowing the engineer to select the projected sketch geometry and subsequently extrude, revolve, sweep, and/or loft surface geometry. Inventor's BOM system does not have the ability to show which assembly a part is contained in.   The structured BOM shows a number next to the parts but this does not allow for easy filtering when pasted into a spreadsheet.   I currently have a program that creates a BOM structure like this, but due to how the Inventor API allows access to the BOM, it only works if the program is run on a subassembly with no extra sub-assemblies present in them. This means that if a machine has 20 different sub-assemblies, it must be run 20 times on each.   Here is an example of the requested function. A column that shows what assembly a part is in.   This feature would be useful because it would allow us to put an entire BOM into a spreadsheet and then filter it by assembly number to only see parts in that assembly.   Initially I was going to request the option to use the " symbol as the unit string for "inches" in drawing Dimension Styles... but then I thought, why not just let users define a fully custom unit string for any unit type? That way we can arbitrarily use "in", "inches", the " symbol, or whatever the heck we want for inch units, and we can use "mm", "millimeters", or whatever we want for millimeter units, and likewise for the other unit types.     Side note: Yes, I realize I can set " as a dimension suffix. But that leads to the " symbol being at the END of whatever type of annotation the dimension is, including hole and chamfer callouts. For example, if the suffix is set to the " symbol, then a chamfer callout would read something like: 0.25 x 45°" And a hole callout would read something like: Ø0.5 THRU" This is obviously not desirable. If we could define the units string ourselves, we could use the " symbol or whatever we want as the unit string, and know that it will display properly in every kind of dimension annotation. I'm also aware that I can choose "ft" as my units and Inventor will display in X' XX" format. But this is only an option if you really want to display in feet and inches. At many companies it is the standard to call out dimensions only in inches, even if the measurement is more than a foot. Show More

This would be similar to "ground and root" (which only constrains to the assembly origin) and "place at component origin" (which only works when placing a new part not for already placed parts) Show More

Please update the weld symbol to have a backing bar symbol that is not removable. Using the plug weld symbol makes the symbol non-compliant. We need to be able to remove the "R" from the backing bar symbol.   Also, please add the ability to stack fractions in a weld symbol.   And, while you're there, please update the symbol styles to be AWS D1.1 compliant. We're missing weld symbols that match the joint designations for complete-joint-penetration (CJP) welds.   Also, it would be nice if we had more control over the weld tail and the symbol's horizontal line (make it shorter for some weld symbols).   Oh and one more thing, we need to be able to stagger more welds than just the fillet welds. Our shop is constantly welding long HSS members to other steel shapes and the fact that we can't show a staggered weld between the corner of the HSS and a flat surface (i.e. Flare Bevel Welds). With large assemblies the new parts will be added to the bottom of the browser. Personally I like using the origins as much as possible for my constrains. If the list of parts gets to large the origins "dissapear" from the browser and you need to scroll to the top to use the origins. It would be usefull if you had the options to keep the origin within view no matter how many parts you have in your assembly. Show More

We often need to draw sheet metal parts over top of a reference surface bodies. It would be nice if the flange tool's Height extents "To" option could snap "To" a point on the surface geometry. Same with the "Width extents" options. It seems like these tools currently work only with other solid bodies. Show More

If you want to constrain (for example) 3 circles in a concentric way, you have to click the second circle twice. Once for the constrain to the first, and once for the constrain to the third.  Why can't this be chained? Same goes for horizontal and vertical constraint.  This would really save time if you have to constrain multiple endpoints to a line.  Show More
