Files of drawings are increasing - cleanup the drawing files required

We have found the following.

The files of drawings are increasing in the course of the project. With each change to the model or to the drawings themselves, the file size increases. The files will reach in some cases up to 100 MB. The time to save such a drawing file is then very long.

Although all content will be deleted from the drawing file (all views, all signature fields, all the frames) the file size will not be smaller.

There should be a function that allows the drawing files will be cleaned to reduce the file size again.

In the picture you can see the used template called "Norm.dwg" with a size of 616 kB. The Projectfile "Project.dwg" has contained some views of an model. There have been done many changes at the model and at the drawing themselve. So the file size increases step by step. Now the drawing is empty (all views are deleted) but the file size is still 98.274 KB.

This forum is for suggestions for Autodesk Inventor and your post likely won't be seen by any of the AutoCAD developers.

Unfortunately there isn't currently an IdeaStation for AutoCAD, but you might have better luck posting this to the AutoCAD forum and seeing if anyone there has any suggestions for how to clean up your drawings and reduce their size. I'm fairly certain you're not the only one that's dealt with this issue with AutoCAD before and I wouldn't be surprised if there are several solutions you can try.

I think the problem described relates exclusively Inventor. Even when speaking of dwg files, this is about Inventor DWG files and not about AutoCAD dwg files.
The problem occurs even with the use of IDWs.

I know that there is the command "clean up" in AutoCAD. A corresponding function would also be in Inventor of great benefit.

I have seem what you are talking about with IDW files as well, particularly with detailed assemblies.

I have no idea why it is happening although since reading your post I am wondering if it is related to express mode.

Express mode greatly increases the size of assembly files as it saves graphics data in the assembly file. I don't know if it has the same affect on drawing files, but I am interested to know.
