Inventor stands alone in the competition of professional CAD software by making absolutely no efford to recover files in the event of a crash. This can cause users to lose large amounts of unsaved work. There are save notificaitons, but they can be easily overlooked, especially if you tab in and out a lot. In any event, the existence of these save notifications really begs the question: Hey Inventor, if it's such a great idea to save now, why don't you, you know... just do it? I know that in some states (sketches come to mind) Inventor cannot save, but since SSDs have reduced file write times for typical CAD files to next to nothing, it would not be too much asked for Inventor to just make a recovery file before entering such a state. Keeping the UI responsive during a file write is also something that has been achived before, so the user would not actually need to wait for the write of extremely large files to finish. If none of this is within the means or ability of Autodesk, maybe at least there should be the option in the settings menu to save unsaved files periodically. I was informed by support there is a paid plugin for this, and while I don't begrudge the developer their income, I really cannot fathom how this, at the very least, is not part of the core product.
