If two parts are "different in geometry", the result of this command is not specific enought. Usually this message means that there are differences in features. So the parts should be shown with their features and the featues that are not identical should get unique colors to be able to identify them and correct easily what is not identical. Hi,     In the project explorer both for groups and queries folder structures can get created. This is great because the user can create a structure that reflects his model structure. eg: groups in folders for themes like Lots material shape types   etc.   I propose that if a folder/treeview structure is used, groups that are not visible- hidden in collapsed nodes/folders are automatically turned off! Hi     Plates should have an optional property "surface" as graitings have. There are plates available that have two different sides. Because there is not surface or side property for plates that can be used in modelling and numbering, Parts that are not identical because of their side orientation may get get detected as identical in numbering and get the same number. Hello,   Currently we do not have an option to assign preliminary numbers per shape, size, thickness order.   The submitted advance BOM to fabricators if sorted per preliminary mark it will look with shapes and thicknesses messed up everywhere.   If ABOM is sorted per name, then the preliminarty numbers are all over the place, and this is in  contradiction to many fabricators' practice to reference the preliminary number to trace what was purchased etc.   There should be an otion to assign preliminary numbers in order the material list is created -sorted per name, length, thickness, with preliminary numbers following same sequence.   Currently we are selecting all angles, or all W-shapes and run the numbering assigning preliminary numbers as close as possible per name, length, thickness etc. and it is a time consuming process.   Regards,   Ilko Dimitrov       Show More

When I create NC files for my customers, they want certain items excluded since they cannot be processed by the steel supplier via NC files. e.g. folded beams folded plates gratings polybeams curved beams certain User profiles etc I can filter out most of these easily via the search tool but not polybeams (they are selected as part of beam objects). Please can these be added to the search tool as an object type or via some property under the beams tab in the search tool. I know in some cases I could filter via the part number but I need a more generic solution to filter out ANY polybeams in the model, since in other cases it may not be so easy to find and select them all via part numbers. Also I like to export and import my standard queries for use in all projects so again a more generic solution is required.   Furthermore, I also create a BOM list of items excluded from the NC output. While all the above (aside from Polybeams) can be excluded in a search using various "NOT" options, it is impossible to get the opposite selection set with a single search. e.g. I can select "NOT" (certain User Profile) to exclude it, and additionally "NOT" (certain material) etc ...but I cannot get a reverse of the selection by just un-ticking the "NOT" checkboxes.   ...so  an additional suggestion is to have a "Reverse" option that is applied to the entire Search and Mark Objects settings. i.e. effectively doing the same as the function "Reverse Selection" (AstM4CommSelectAllDscObjects_), but within the Search and Mark Objects tool.   ...or maybe a search and mark objects Wizard that will run several saved search settings in one click, with ability to PRE-set the options on the "General" tab between each stage - i.e. complete model/current marked set, new/add/subtract marking etc.   Then more complex search criteria can be saved and re-used easily for use with BOM extracts, Queries to display certain items etc.     Show More

Hi again:    The issue is I cannot detail the special part on any drawing.  If the special part is welded / bolted to a native model part, then yes it shows up on an assembly drawing.  However, I still cannot select it. It would be great if I could use the Drawing Process to detail the special part and have it detailed on a part drawing, so someone can fabricate the item. I can use cameras and use the drawing process to create a drawing of the special part, however it would be just peachy if I create a “Solid” detail style for both MP assembly and SP drawings so in the future I do not need to do hacks to get something on a drawing?   Juss sayin: Best regards, Janet Graitec CANADA Show More

Since version 2019 the quality of the translations has got worse in the user interface of Advance Steel again. Though in AS2020 some names have been reworked, but not to the better. One could believe that here just of the Google translator was used. In the German version there are there some places which could be improved. I think, into other languages this is similar. However, in English seems to be good. Many users cannot understand the names of the functions in Advance Steel at all because they do not correspond to the technical context. The translation of the user interface should be reworked. Show More

I would love to use the "Standard Parts" for numbering but it is a requirement that everything match, including the coating.  We have many standard plates and such that we weld on then paint many different colors.  This makes them "different" than the standard parts.  An option to "Ignore Coating on Single Parts" for numbering would be fantastic and be the perfect fix for my problem. I would like to see .nc data displayed in the model browser. We can set a column for drawing numbers for parts (single parts.....main part does not show a drawing number, just the attached parts). We create .nc files for certain plates... would give us a visual check that no plates were missed.     Show More

Currently the only way to select Standalone parts is from the ribbon button: Mark Loose Parts (_AstM4CommStandaloneParts)   However, this marks the standalone parts in the whole model (even if you have a selection of objects), which is very inconvenient when you are working with part of the model and I feel is a very large oversight in the functionality of the software.   1.  I want this function to work on the whole model if nothing is selected or just on the currently selected objects if you have a selection.   2.  I also want the "Search and mark objects" tool (which is also used for Queries) to have an option for standalone parts (or to exclude standalone parts). Hi, in addition to my last idea and as an improvement to it, color marking could get added to the ModelBrowser. If the properties are filtered, so that every column shows only a list of all properties of a kind without double entries, then a temporary color marking could get added to the ModelBrowser. If a column of the ModelBrowser gets selected than color patches with an optimum sequence of contrast get added to the properties and the parts in the model that have these properties get colored the same way. Es würde mich freuen, wenn man an einer Maske vorbeigeführt wird, auf der man wählen kann, was Priorität hat.
