Advance Steel groups with folder/tree structure in project explorer

Hi,

In the project explorer both for groups and queries folder structures can get created.

This is great because the user can create a structure that reflects his model structure.

eg:

groups in folders for themes like

  • Lots
  • material
  • shape types

etc.

I propose that if a folder/treeview structure is used, groups that are not visible- hidden in collapsed nodes/folders are automatically turned off!

This way the user can be sure that if he is working in a certain folder of the tree (that is expanded) no groups in other folders interfere the display/ selection.of groups that are visible and turned on/ of

Hi,

In addition to this idea http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/advance-steel-ideas/advance-steel-groups-with-folder-tree-structure-in... I propose:

If a folder/ tree structure is used in Project explorer/ groups, the reason is that the groups are created according to themes that have well defined criteria like Material, Lot, objectType, or combinations of criteria. This has the consequence that a part that is part of a group (with well defined criteria, I would name the parent folder/ node refering to the type of criteria and the group name refering to the specific group criteria) can not be part of another group that is created using the same type of criteria. As a consequence I would prohibit that parts can be allocated to groups that have the same parent folder/node. This can be done by removing a part from a group if the part gets allocated to a group with the same parent folder/node as the other group.

My intention is to have consistent data in a range of groups, where each group's set of createria is unique, but to allow an infinite number of groups defined by themes.

Hi,

in additon to the previous idea I propose to types of folders/ nodes, An assembly node and a single part node. The difference between the two types should be, that allocating a part to a group whose parent is an assembly folder/ node is always allocating /removing all parts of an assembly, whilst allocating a part to a group whose parent is a single part folder/node is only allocating single parts.

The intention is to allow a safe destinction between assembly oriented and single part oriented group structures.

Hi,

I propose additonal display functions: for an expanded folder/ node there should be display functions available after seleting the sub parts ( either folders/ nodes or groups) hide, show, hide only (show all other parts), show only (hide all other parts). Selection of parts should be windows explorer like, double clicking can replace the current toggling of the visibility state of a group. Also, if there are multiple folders/nodes used and their groups displayed there should be a sequence of action which follows the sequence of nodes used. The display part in one node will be the filtered set for the next node....display groups of the lot theme, then display (assembly )groups of the column theme, then display (single part) groups of the material theme etc.

Please comment this post, again:::: goal is data consistency and accessability and display of structured data.
