I use the single part multiple body modelling method almost on a daily basis. My experience is that it gets me to a complete finished assembly that much quicker, pre-empt most potential issues with clashes, it can be modelling to a common origin making placement into larger assemblies easier and best of all, it limits the use of constraints. The one drawback though is Inventor does not recognize that some bodies are actually the same, just used more than once and therefor when you use the "Create Components" function, you end up with each of these similar parts being treated as different parts with different part numbers. It would be great if a method can be developed where one can identify in the base component, which bodies are the same, and when the components are created, it is then treated as multiple instances of the same part. That will speed up the design process, it will create a simplified BOM which in turn will increase fabrication efficiency. Please vote for this idea. Show More

Currently there is no API access to update the styles in a local file to match the style library and to purge unused styles from the local file.  Adding this would allow for a far more automated way of updating old files to match current styles. For example we add / change elements contained in the style library frequently for the sheet metal styles.   Today the only way to do this in a program is using the Command Manager & Controls Definitions with the  items"UpdateStyleCmd" and "PurgeStylesCmd". This is limited in that it can only work on the visible file, and since it is using the interface it can be interfered with by the user or other processes.   The style library interface already exists in the API for drawings under the DrawingDocument.StylesManager.Styles object collection, so hopefully it can give you a head start on adding it for parts and assemblies. I noticed that in 2023 there was a change to have the paste on a part sketch follow the cursor.  It's listed here.  https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-ideas/place-pasted-sketch-block-onto-cursor-tip/idc-p/7613632#M23224   I've been using Inventor for many years and have often found myself wanting the ability to place sketches based on the origin, rather than the sketch midpoint. In previous versions of Inventor, including 2022, when you copy and paste sketch lines from one part to another in a 2D sketch, the placement would align with the origin. However, in more recent versions, it seems to default to the midpoint, which isn't always practical.   While this might work for simple shapes like circles or rectangles, it's not helpful when you're dealing with more complex sketches with multiple elements. For these situations, aligning the sketch with the origin would be far more efficient.   Could you please consider adding an option in Inventor 2025 to allow sketch placement based on the origin? This would greatly improve the workflow for users like myself who rely on precise placements during sketch transfers.   Thanks!          Show More

If the dimension setting for text orientation is set to "Inline" then if the text does not fit inside the extension lines the text is moved automatically outside, but is the text orientation is set to "Parallel" then the text will stay inside the extension lines.   Is there a way the text and move automatically outside the extension line for both if the text will not fit between.   Refer to this post for details.  Re: Move text to outside dimension lines if to large to fit between extension lines - Autodesk Community - Inventor   Donald Show More

We have had cases several times where internal data structures in a design (ipt) have become defective. However, this is not immediately apparent to the user. It only becomes apparent when elements are edited or the end of the component is moved and an error message appears that an endless loop is created. The model or design can then no longer be edited and usually cannot be repaired. It would be important for Inventor to issue a warning as soon as internal data structures become defective. This is the only way to correct the error in time and save the design.   *********************************************************************************   Wir hatten bereits mehrmals den Fall, dass in einer Konstruktion (ipt) interne Datenstrukturen defekt gegangen sind. It would be great if the units for importing a STEP file could either be adjustable or automatically refer to the predefined settings from a template, for example. When opening a file from inventor, replacing a component or saving a file, Inventor usually opens to the last location used. It would be really useful to be able to add quick access / favorite locations to the folder tree in the Open/Save dialog box as one can do in Windows. This could save several clicks per open/save action in many cases.     Show More

Sometimes during constraining, a part moves in a way, so that you are not able anymore to click the desired hole/plane/line/whatever. Would be nice to have the option, maybe by pressing a certain key, to activate dragging/rotating/move a part while constraint function is still active.  Show More
