ADD MISSING KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS - (please submit any missing shortcut functionality below)

ADD MISSING KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS - (please submit any missing shortcut functionality below)

There are many commands that have no associated keyboard shortcuts, this idea is made to address the scattered ideas on missing command shortcuts. Please submit your shortcut requests below so they are all gathered and organised in one place.

In my experience, one thing most of these commands have in common is that they are only found in buttons on toolbars, menus, windows, the properties panel or project browser, but no keyboard shortcuts was associated to them.

Keyboard shortcut to open a section view. (Instead of double clicking the head of a section or right clicking & selecting "go to view", you would be able to click on a section & then type in the keyboard short cut to "go to view".)

Hi Autodesk,

I am not sure why unable to set a shortcut for Save As command in Revit.

But, it will be better if it is open to assign a shortcut.

Can't tell you how often I switch to 3D view with my handy "3D" Keyboard shortcut. Keeps me from having to find and click the link at the top of the screen or in the project browser.

It would be amazing to be able to flip to level 1, level 2, roof plan, etc. with similar keyboard shortcuts. I can already see using "Shift+1" for level 1, "Shift +2" for level 2, and so on. Of course ideally you'd be able to set your own keyboard shortcut for each view. This would save a ton of time hunting through the project browser trying to find the view I'm trying to work with.

What if you have 10 or so views on Level 1?  Faster to just select it from the Project Browser right?

Of course it would be faster to just type the view name in Project Browser, which is supposedly fixed in 2020 and broken in 2019 still.

"GO TO VIEW" shorcut is a must. Autodesk has ignore this request for a long time. This is one of the most used commands as opposed to other commands. I've looked into ways in making it work but no solution yet. Please fix

ASAP.

Best I've come up with is Right click on the section, then tap G on the keyboard.

Thank you su66s....

Revit is currently still very limited in the type of keys you can assign, for instance some function keys (F1, F5, F7, F8 & F10)are hard-coded, whereas arrow keys are not available. Please allow these keys and any combinations with these keys to be user-configurable.

Forgot to mention other keys, such as Page Up/ Down, Home & End.

It would be easier to have a f3 shortcut, type the name in the project browser search dialog, hit enter and the view opens.

To start off:

  • Renaming parameters, materials and design options with F2.
  • Duplicating parameters, materials and design options (shift + d or ctrl + \   ...?)
  • Delete paramter, material and design option by hitting the delete key with the parameter highlighted (dialog to confirm)
  • Project browser search with F3 (alongside the current Ctrl + F)
  • Undo/ Redo for the viewport camera, so you won't have to go into the steering wheel and use rewind
  • Apply changes (in dialog boxes) F5

Other user requests:

Any commands without a shortcut listed here are up to the user (I only mention keys I would preconfigure, but they will always need to be user-configurable).

My biggest Keyboard Shortcut wish is the Rewind button on the Navigation Wheel.

I'm not a big fan of the Wheel, but Rewind is SUPER useful.

@Intuos5 ,

Thank you for listing the similar posts. What do you think about combining them into this one (along with the Kudos!)?

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones

I personally wouldn't mind combining them as long as the individual ideas are respected and listed here. Perhaps any  constructive feedback regarding the merged ideas should also move over in case that is technically feasible...? Ultimately, the goal is to give a voice to these small ideas and nuisances they solve, as they would otherwise go unnoticed.

@Intuos5  Absolutely! All of the comment threads would move as well. I will review each one to see if there is anything that would indicate that the Idea should be kept separate. Having many separate but similar Ideas dilutes the Kudos, which is ultimately what pushes the Ideas up the chain. Does that make sense?

Update: There may be a few Ideas that we will leave separate simply because if one Idea is Implemented, I will not mark the entire post as Implemented. If Ideas are identical or very similar, I will combine them.

I'd also suggested adding the Rewind tool to the ribbon, but I'm fine with combining my Idea with this one.

I'd be OK with just getting a Keyboard Shortcut since I know about Rewind.

My original post was trying to raise awareness that the tool even exists.

@dplumb_BWBR  Thank you! I will keep the Rewind-ribbon Idea separate, but your comments here will certainly add to the keyboard shortcut discussion.

Thank you for your submission!

We are combining this with your other post regarding the same general topic. Thank you for your submission!

Here's another one that has been bothering me a lot:

There is no proper context sensitivity for shortcuts, for instance if I set my Walls/ Lines/ Detail lines to use "RT" to invoke the rectangle tool, Revit displays it is using the Room Tags instead. This is illogical, because you would rather Escape out of an active command before invoking another tool in this case. On the other hand, it is working properly within the floor/ roof "environment", because once activated this environment is considered to be separate form other tools. If any of the drawing linetypes within commands take precedence over other commands assigned to the same keyboard shortcut?

Currently, there is no proper way to assign additional commands and drawing commands for linetypes to memorisable key combinations without the two interfering.
