ADD MISSING KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS - (please submit any missing shortcut functionality below)

ADD MISSING KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS - (please submit any missing shortcut functionality below)

There are many commands that have no associated keyboard shortcuts, this idea is made to address the scattered ideas on missing command shortcuts. Please submit your shortcut requests below so they are all gathered and organised in one place.

In my experience, one thing most of these commands have in common is that they are only found in buttons on toolbars, menus, windows, the properties panel or project browser, but no keyboard shortcuts was associated to them.

We need shortcut for switching On and Off Leader line for Dimensions and Tags. Currently it is simple check mark, can be switched only with mouse click, which is not handy. Also Leader Type (Attached End / Free End) is switched from drop-down menu. Would be nice if we could have a shortcut for this!

Even better would be to specify leader on/off and attachment by family type, IMNSHO... 😉 We use Multi-Category leaders for descriptive text in detail/section views (with leaders on and "free" attachment) and mostly category tags (with no leaders) in plans.

But I suppose we could come up with a "pair" of shortcuts to combine into a "4-letter" shortcut for tagging in plans vs tagging in details... but might need 6 letters for multi-cat then (turn on leader & set end):

TA = Tag Multi-Category

GD = Leader On

ET = Free End

:. TAGDET = tagging in details/sections

PT = Tag (by cat)

AG = Leader Off

:. PTAG = tagging in plans

Would need to come up with something for plan tags where we DO want a leader, but the above would still be helpful. 🙂

Making a section view could really use a keyboard shortcut. I cut sections all the time!!!!

@anielsonMake sure the sections tool is in the Quick access toolbar, which I believe it is by default.
You can then assign a hotkey to the command.

Shortcut for closing current view tab only, please.

@GraphOntoFYI: Ctrl + F4 does this, but this is not user-configurable indeed.

@Intuos5 Thank you I had searched and searched for this! There's another thread somewhere where this was requested and I had chimed in recently, figuring it wasn't possible yet. Ctrl+F4 is fine for now!

Archicad trumps Revit massively in this function -- you can assign/reassign almost any command to a key, even almost every Windows/Mac function key is remappable, and the list of commands is much longer.  Also there is much ambiguity about many of the command in the Revit Shortcut list, with numerous duplicates.

I would first like to see a close region/boundary command in the list, add all the Sync/Relinquish commands, and one to enable click on any numeric parameter (view range height / length / etc) and press pageup/pagedn to see the results in the viewport as I adjust it.

Close current view

Previously I was using <Ctrl+W>, but now it was assigned to close the project by default, and the user cannot change as well.

@Radish_G it isn't a real shortcut, but as long as Autodesk haven't made one...

When you press the following keys one by one, you can save as (it only works with the left Alt-key):

Alt → F → A → P    (Project)

Alt → F → A → F    (Family)

Shortcuts for the following

- when drawing boundaries or detail lines: every segment type (eg. straight, rectangle, circle, SER arc, CE arc, TE arc, fillet, spline, elipse, pick lines, pick walls)

- for boundaries: cancel edit / finish edit mode

- for splines: add control, delete control

Deselecting should be asigneable to ctrl+d, rather than switching to the opening screen (with recent files). There should be no reserved hotkeys to begin with. A user should always be able to change them, there could be a prompt for changing such hotkeys, but it should be doable!

I agree.
Having the user to use a mouse and click several times
to find the same command by just entering the keyboard shotcuts
saves LOTS of time. Not to mentioned saving your hand from
repetitive finger clicks.

To be fair, though not necessarily part of this idea, if you could use alt + keystring directly for any given shortcut, the amount of options it opens to me is more valuable than having alt for navigating the ribbon. So maybe that could be an option: whether to use alt for ribbon navigation or directly for shortcuts (i.e. alt+z). I don't propose taking away the option for those who like it though!

Alt is a fun key. @Intuos5 you might already know some of this, but I'm a nerd, so I share the wealth.

“Alt” used to be the “Meta” key on some ancient systems, and that connotation has carried on. Alt+Tab switches applications while Ctrl+Tab switches tabs inside an application. Alt+F4 closes an application, but Ctrl+F4 closes only the active document (or view). For [almost] any Windows application, Alt+<Space> opens the Windows system menu, and - if there's no Ribbon - Alt activates the menus.

Fortunately, Alt is available to us as a keyboard shortcut modifier so long as we couple it with Ctrl or Shift. Ctrl+L could start a model line, Ctrl+Alt+L could start a detail line, etc.

As for the Ribbon, we only need to tap Alt to activate it. After that tap a string of characters as indicated by the icons that show up over the ribbon buttons. Each button press narrows down choices until we’re at the command we want.  In theory, any Revit command could be run this way. Not having to hold Alt down is nice, and once you’ve run a command a couple of time, muscle memory takes over. I’m Alt,G,M,L’ing all day long.

@pobrienFNE96What I was referring to in particular is that the sequence for a particular function can become quite long, 3 characters if I am not on the correct tab. For that matter, I'd rather set up a 3 character keyboard shortcut, so I can skip using alt. But, I cannot use Alt+[Key] despite it being a shorter sequence to activate. The keyboard shortcuts with alphanumerical keys are basically the same as the ribbon navigation shortcuts, apart from that it does not navigate the ribbon.

Increasingly, users request the ability to use shift+[key], ctrl+[key] and alt+[key] shortcuts in any software, without restrictions like using alt in conjuction with another modifier. I see this happen in various programs — and the more people use hotkeys and start to customise them, the more likely restrictions such as those in Revit (e.g. reserved keys, alt cannot be used as sole modifier, to name a few), hamper setting up shortcuts across different programs.

With an interface that is as mouse heavy as Revit's, proper keyboard shortcuts are the only way to make the software become more ergonomical and more productive.

When command "Move" is used, simple shortcut should be available to toggle on/off "Disjoin" mode.

"Constrain" works with Shift,
"Multiple" works with Ctrl

"Disjoin" does not have a shortcut for some reason (most logic seems Alt, but whatever close by button will do)
