View Template keyboard shortcut

View Template keyboard shortcut

I'd like to be able to make a keyboard shortcut to bring up the View Template dialog for the active view's template (if any), just as if I'd clicked on the button in the Properties Panel.

You can currently create a shortcut for Manage View Templates (on a pull-down in the View tab), but that doesn't behave like clicking the button in Properties (i.e. the correct template doesn't get selected).

NOTE: this is a re-posted (and separated) idea from:

and this could also be handled by the implementation of this idea:

Any idea when this will be implemented? I would really like to have the View Template Button in the Properties Window be a Keyboard Shortcut much like CS (Create Similar) of VG (Visibility/Graphics)

We have VG/VV for edit visibility control.

As we have view template, VG doesn't function at all.

And when I try add new shortcut to "Edit View Template", it give me a long template list (thanks to my colleagues), and revit pointing to the top first template, not CURRENT template.

Wish to have this shortcut available.

Thank you.

THIS! Anything that leads you to a the View Template Manager should start you on the template you are currently on - never at the top of the list.

Yes Please! hell and optional command line for those of us that are native from AutoCAD would be lovely!

I was just speaking with a few coworkers about how nice this feature would be. In an ideal world, the keyboard shortcut would automatically defer to the governing view modifier (either the view template or the manual view-specific modifications, like what "VV" does now). For example, if "VV" automatically went to the applied view template (or view-specific overrides like it does now), then that would save time cycling through different places to locate and modify view settings.

This would be great:

By showing this shortcut, Revit would even tell users why everything was greyed out.

Yes please! Something as simple clicking VV to bring up visibility graphics but applied to the selected view template. Perhaps with a warning to alert that this is a view template and changed will be applied to all. Anyone who appreciates shortcuts must find frustrating: clicking VV on find out a view template is applied, to cancel the visibility graphics panel, to scroll down, to find the view template!

we DEFINITELY NEED THIS, asap. The amount of time i click this button per day is staggering. The amount of time a Keyboard Shortcut for this would save is insane...

Please REVIT...

Please...

This idea should also be implemented: Always show current view template

Imagine the chaos caused if you typed a keyboard shortcut, made no changes to the (largely-empty) dialog, but clicked "OK", and didn't realize you just removed the View Template from the view (by changing it to "<None>")!

@lionel.kai  Thank you!

@lionel.kai you mean this is not something that can be managed through a warning at the bottom right like every other warning?

Or at least create a different shortcut for view templates?

Maybe a different colour window will help identify the difference between a view template window and a standard visibility graphics window.

Surely Autodesk can find a way to make life easier, surely.

@ovlagkouli It's never been a matter of CAN they, but WILL they make our lives easier?

Sad but true, one can only hope

I was creating a poll suggesting the possibility of assigning a shortcut key to this function, and before posting, this poll appeared to me as a suggestion.

I believe it's a necessity that all users would benefit from, it would help a lot and I believe it's a necessity that, apparently seems simple, should have existed for a long time.
