Inventor Nastran 2023.1 list of changes

Inventor Nastran 2023.1 has been released. This is my list of changes that I believe are important to users, taken from the What's New, Release Notes, and other issues addressed by development for the Inventor Nastran interface and the Nastran solver.

To install 2023.1, use the Autodesk Desktop App (installed to your computer when any Autodesk software is installed), or go to manage.autodesk.com and click “Product Updates” on the left. Version 2023.1 installs on top of version 2023.0.

Note that Inventor Nastran version 2023 is missing some CAD-related functionality (such as highlighting the item on the model when selecting an entry in the model tree). This forum post includes a (now outdated) list of known issues. The remaining items will be addressed in an upcoming release.

1	The default result for displaying the deformed shape of an explicit dynamics analysis is now total displacement.
2	“Tools > Measure > Measure” now supported in Nastran environment. (This was not functioning in 2023.0.)
3	"View > Visibility > Half Section View" now supported in Nastran environment. Other section views are not supported yet. (This was not functioning in 2023.0.)
4	"3D Model > Work Features > UCS" now supported in Nastran environment. (This was not functioning in 2023.0.)
5	Fixed issue where Inventor would freeze when using Dynamic Setup in a random response analysis.
6	Explicit dynamic analysis now supports interpolation rigid connectors (RBE3).
7	A new warning E5088 is given in a nonlinear analysis if the simulation cannot converge because the material loses stiffness and cannot support the load. For example, concrete that begins to fail will not support an increasing load.
8	Additional support for the dark theme in Inventor.
9	For frequency response, the annotation label indicates if the result is showing the Real or Imaginary, Magnitude or Phase result.
10	Fixed a crash that would occur in an explicit dynamics analysis when using a spherical coordinate system.
11	The Inventor “Model” tab is hidden while in the Nastran environment. Since the new licensing philosophy “releases” the Inventor license while in the Nastran environment, no changes can be made to the CAD model when in the Nastran environment. Most modeling functions are disabled.
