Inventor Nastran 2020.2 list of changes

Inventor Nastran 2020.2 has been released and is now available to install. From manage.autodesk.com,

  1. Locate the Product Design & Manufacturing Collection.
  2. Click “View items” button and locate Inventor Nastran. (Of course, you need to have Inventor 2020 installed before installing Inventor Nastran.)
  3. Click “View downloads” link for version 2020.
  4. Click “Updates & Add-ons” tab.
  5. Download/install Autodesk Inventor Nastran 2020.2.

Alternatively, use the Autodesk Desktop App (installed to the computer when any Autodesk software is installed) and locate Autodesk Inventor Nastran 2020.2.

Note: Inventor Nastran is the new name for Nastran In-CAD. The change occurred with version 2020.0.

Note: You must update the software from version 2020.0 to 2020.1 before you can update it to 2020.2.

Here is my list of changes, gathered from the What's New, Release Notes, and issues addressed by development (which includes changes to “In-CAD” and to the Nastran solver that are relevant).

Item

1

Corrected a problem with changing the color of the mesh lines (after the model was meshed) that was causing a crash. (The mesh line color is changed in the Idealization dialog.)

2

Corrected a crash that occurred when entering Inventor Nastran with a subassembly that included suppressed part(s). See Inventor crashes when entering the Nastran environment when parts are suppressed for work around with older versions.

3

Corrected a crash when deleting an analysis. (I never encountered this, so I do not know how wide-spread this was.)

4

Corrected the value of Stefan Boltzmann constant (SIGMA) in a heat transfer analysis with radiation when using the English system. The correct value for units of BTU, inch, second, Rankine is 3.30E-15.

5

Version 2020.0 models with hydrostatic load would crash (or hang) when entering the Nastran environment in version 2020.1. They can now be opened in version 2020.2.

6

Fixed a crash that would occur when enter the Nastran environment if a frame member were suppressed.

7

Corrected problem with receiving a Fatal Error S1121 when using a borrowed license. See Error S1121 Invalid License when running an analysis in Inventor Nastran (borrowed license) for work arounds when using older software.

8

New or updated tutorials for explicit dynamics analysis. See Explicit Dynamics Analysis of a Beam and Explicit Dynamics Analysis of a Chain.

9

Radiation load can no longer be applied to a linear steady state heat transfer analysis because it is not compatible with that analysis type. (Use a nonlinear steady state heat transfer analysis because radiation requires an iterative solution; that is, a nonlinear analysis.)

10

Corrected iLogic command for creating a New Idealization. It was not working previously.

11

The maximum displacement can be obtained through iLogic.

12

Corrected the display of Frame Generator models when entering the Nastran environment if frame members were added to a sketch after the model has already been transferred at least once to the Nastran environment. Members should be shown now.

13

A quasi-static analysis (explicit solver) that is being solved can now be stopped with the Stop button.

14

Corrected the glyph for Rigid Constraint and Rigid Motion (both related to Explicit Dynamic analysis) which were not visible when added.

15

Corrected the documentation for the Punch and Punch+Plot options on the analysis output options. Punch will send the results to the .FNO (binary), .OUT (text), and .PCH (text) files. Punch+Plot will send the results to the .FNO and .PCH files.

16

Documentation updated with the correct value for the Stefan Boltzmann constant (SIGMA) when using BTU, inch, seconds, Rankine. The correct value is 3.30E-15.

17

Updated documentation for nonlinear analysis with plasticity (stress-strain curve) to indicate that three points are the minimum input required, where the third point defines the behavior after yielding. If only 2 points are entered, a T2090 error will occur.

18

Removed NASTRANXDB from the list of options for the parameter RSLTFILETYPE. NASTRANXDB is no longer supported.
