Hi there,  

I recently bought a laptop to be able to do my school work on the road, but i keep getting this error. I have tried countless different things like making a new account, following some forums. I cant seem to figure it out.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems with your installation.  I would like to suggest downloading the product using this download method.  This is different than downloading the product from your Autodesk Account. To download follow the instructions for Downloading Previous Versions of Autodesk Software Using the Virtual Agent

Your case might be different than that of @Anonymous ... You might want to start with stating

1. Your computer configuration

2. Internet Explorer version you are using

3. Operating System

4. Attach a copy of the log file where one may see the error

Other solutions might involve just small steps such as

a. making sure Antivirus and Firewall are off

b. Adding autodesk.com to safe list in internet security settings

c. Clearing your %Temp% files

d. Pre-installing Microsoft prerequisit applications such as MSV C++ directly from microsoft

e. Rolling back to Internet explorer 10 instead of 11

f. Downloading from Autodesk Virtual Agent and (extract/install) using run as administrator

g. In some cases you might need to unistall all Autodesk Peripheral Apps such as Autodesk 3ds 20?? SDK and Server License Manager if those got partially installed

Of course, I'm using windows 10. As for sepcs, I have and i5 2400, 2x660's, 16GB RAM. I have been using firefox to download, not internet explorer. I have also attached a copy of my log file.

It looks like you are having installation problems related to the  Microsoft C++ items. Most likely you have a newer version than the installer needs and its causing an issue.

Uninstall and reinstall them prior to your installation (basically follow the steps in this article).

Let us know if that resolves your issue.

In the windows 10 search box, type %temp% and hit an enter..  Where does it point to?  Any message?

Clean out that folder (deleting as many files and folders as possible), do the same with C:\WIndows\temp and check out this 1603 error article.  At this point I'm tagging @TravisNave if he has any other ideas.

Thank you for your help. As far as I can tell, it seems the problem is with Visual C++ 2005 SP1 ATL security udate (x64), however I'm not sure what the actual issue with it is.

The actual issue is that MS Visual C++ 2005 is more than 11 years old, last SP was in 2007 and last patch if not mistaken in 2011 moreover it is no longer supported by Microsoft!! What else...it is not compatible with Windows 10 .Net Frameworks 4.6 ...

The 2005 SP1 ATL Security update was not the latest release; this was in 2009 and is also superseded by i think 2 or 3 updates till 2011. However, ie: just in time for windows 8/8.1 users to get those updates...Windows 10 doesn't

I am not sure why Autodesk 2016 products still require those old versions when they got ss'ed by the later versions! What you can do is try install 2005 + it's SP1 and the extenssions manually straight from microsoft...If MSV C++ is the only issue this will solve it...While you are at it you can do the same for C++ 2012...When windows update scans and you have a later version installed (ie: C++ 2014 or 2015) installed, windows will not pull the updates and patches for the older versions which are no longer supported.

Unfortunately (only because you are using a Windows 10) you will have to locate them manually HERE (Microsoft Downloads) under Developers Tools (Redistributables)... You can filter your search to narrow it down to "visual studio 2005"

All I can say is good luck (sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't) and in 90% of the windows 10 cases something else turns right up after the C++ issue is solved
