How to install Maya at custom directory on Linux?

Hi, I have a Maya network license and would like to install Maya for multiple Linux machines.

(1) I would like to install Maya and its related packages in a network-shared directory (says /share_maya/) for multiple Linux machines.

This can greatly reduce the admin work by maintaining one single copy instead of dozens copies.

However, the setup script have no way for us to choose the installation destination ( Default: /usr/autodesk/maya[version]/ ).

I tried to set up the environment variable "MAYA_LOCATION" but it does not work.

(2) Similar problem happened in changing the default locations for adlm packages.

I notice that adlmflexnetclient and adlmapps would install files under /opt/Autodesk and /var/opt/Autodesk respectively,

while information of network license is stored in /var/flexlm/maya.lic by default.

Is there any way to change these default settings? How can I install/move them to alternate locations but Maya/Adlm still can find the correct path?

Please advise.

the easiest way of doing what you want is to move /usr/autodesk to wherever you need and then use link /usr/autodesk->to_new_destination

But to be honest I do not think it is a good idea to load Maya from a network resource.

Normal way of doing it is to keep default Maya installation locally and creating a shared network folder for your custom scripts/plugins (using env variables)

I also think this is not allowed against the end user license agreement and since you have a network license it will not work as well.  But I will tag @TravisNave for his input.

Mark is right, network access to an application violates the license agreement. You cannot install the software on a server or otherwise central location for multiple users to access across the LAN. Each user must have the software installed on their local client machine. The only exception is software that Autodesk supports on Citrix.
