Cant install or update any autodesk app: "Please restart computer to install this update"

Hello,

As the title reads i cannot install or update any of my Autodesk apps.

When trying to update i get this error message:

jltw7PSW2_0-1759123513688.png

When downloading new programs i get this message:

jltw7PSW2_1-1759123783468.png

I have tried everything in this support article:
"An operating system restart is pending" installing Autodesk products

Creating a silent deployment for my apps did help me install Recap and Naviswork, but i stil cant update my apps, im assuming due to the same error.

I guess it would be a workaround to uninstall and reinstall all apps when new Hotfixes are released, but this seems like a lot of work for something that should work.

It seems to have started after upgrading my pc to Windows 11.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

You can download updates from your Autodesk Account page.

Hello @jltw7PSW2

Did you try deleting the RebootRequired key from regedit on this path "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update\RebootRequired"

Hello @deepti_bhardwaj

You might have to taskkill the Explorer.exe and run a new Explorer.exe from Task Manager after making the registry change so that it reloads the key.

Just a thought.  I have had success doing so.

Hello @jltw7PSW2

Thank you for your response.

Here are some recommended next steps that you may try:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Guide

  1. Check for Pending Windows Updates

    • Open Settings > Windows Update.
    • Click “Check for updates” and install all available updates.
    • Restart your PC multiple times until no further updates are pending.
  2. Disable Fast Startup (Windows 10/11)

    • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
    • Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable”.
    • Uncheck “Turn on fast startup”.
    • Save changes and fully shut down your PC (not restart), then turn it back on.
  3. Run Installer as Administrator

    • Right-click the installer file and choose “Run as administrator”.
  4. Use the Full Offline Installer

    • Instead of using the Autodesk Desktop App or web installer, download the full offline installer from Autodesk Account.
    • This avoids issues with partial downloads or corrupted online installations.
  5. Clear Temporary Files

    • Press Win + R, type %temp%, and delete all files in the folder.
    • Also clear C:\Autodesk and C:\ProgramData\Autodesk if previous installs failed.
  6. Check Antivirus or Firewall Settings

    • Temporarily disable antivirus or firewall software during installation.
    • Some security tools may block installer components.
  7. Try Installing on a Different Drive

    • Some users reported success by installing Autodesk apps on a different drive (e.g., D Drive instead of C:)

Hi @mari.shimode

The issue still persists. My pc is  a corporate computer, and im thinking since none of the solutions have worked, it might be something controlled by my corporation that is prevent me from installing and updating Autodesk apps.

Hello @jltw7PSW2

Thank you for sharing the update. Since the issue persists and your PC is a corporate-managed device, it’s very likely that certain administrative policies or restrictions are preventing the installation or update of Autodesk applications.

To move forward, I recommend:

  1. Confirming Local Admin Rights – Please verify if you have administrative privileges on your machine.
  2. Checking Endpoint Management Tools – If your organization uses tools like SCCM, Intune, or similar, these may enforce restrictions on software installations.
  3. Engaging Your IT Team – It may be necessary to involve your corporate IT department to review group policies, firewall rules, or security settings that could be blocking the installer.

If the issue persists, please update us so we can assist you accordingly.
