Make dxf files the exact shape of the parts, whithout errors which need post treatment.

Hello, Currently if you activate "create only one side for plate DXF output" in the management tools, the scribing on plate DXF is just on one side and not the other. If there are welded parts on both sides of this plate, it would be interesting to have the scribe on both sides with different layers as for the folding lines. Thank you very much Corentin

Hi, I would expect that if I search Help with an Advance Steel command name , _AstM5equalpartsDelNumber or AstM5equalpartsDelNumber as an example, I would get the help for this command. No result! Can we have different forum categories similar to the AutoCAD Forum? The forum is now getting busier and becoming more engaging to users so it would be better to have different categories to seperate the enteries.

Thickness DXF Plate value to be displayed in imperial form (10mm plate) to read as 0.375 plate in the tokens for file naming. While creating NC/DXF for plates, the piece mark as well as the quantity, and material thickness, is to be listed in the file name. The value of the thickness was displayed in METRIC. I would like the thickness to be displayed in imperial form, 0.125, 0.25, 0.375, 0.5, 0.75 etc for plate thicknesses. Just saying.... it would be nice. Some customers only use imperial units! This would avoid confusion in the shop as well as time wasted explaining the issue to the CNC operators. Please see 1min,30 second video for clarity.

hello when I put a bolt I can choose the extra dimension for the diameter of the hole. This is a teoric parameters. It is "true" for hole make with drill but when if the hole is make on a plate cutting with oxifuel or similar hot process it can be "false" because the true hole is more small. Maybe I need a different value of the paramater only for the machine. I want ask if is it possible to have an automatic parameter to set this extra when I put the bolt. This extra must be used only for nc/dxf file for the the cutting machine. The shop drawing of the plate maybe create with nominal dimension or "machine" dimension (with extra) or with all two dimension. thanks bye

When we produce a dxf file, it would be useful to have a part name for a hard stamp on the part, along with a line of text underneath the part, describing it - the thickness material etc. Currently we have to choose between the two. I have attached 3 pictures. Where there is one line of text, this occurs when there is a negative figure in the "Management Tools > Defaults > Structured BOM/NC > DStV NC&DXF > NC hard stamp - Position in Y". However to achieve this the "NC hard stamp - Use auto placement needs to be unticked. The multi-line output where both lines are on the part is achieved with a positive value in the Y position and the %NEWLINE token is used, except auto placement must be ticked - this is undesirable as the text can be lost or removed by the system if the part smaller than the text. The desired outcome is where there is "0000-00-PL1" on the part, with the informative text below the part. This would mean that we would only have to edit dxf files to remove the outer hole on countersink holes (a very different problem).

When creating nc and dxf files we need the ability to add the assembly number to the file, I understand that this may create a lot for files but fabricators with more automated and larger workshops are asking for this information to be provided. Perhaps this is a way to get around the scribing on same items problem also? This is similar to tekla approach.

When obtaining laser cutting files in Autodesk Advance Steel, they are currently provided in DXF format. Would Autodesk consider adding the DWG format in their future updates?

Built-up plate members should be implemented completely. Tapered members, built-up, maybe compound members Problems: There are no web plates called out or detailed on the detail sheet or anywhere else that I can find. No flange plates labeled on the detail, even though they are billed out. Flange plates are considered to be part of the depth. The problem is the flange plates change thicknesses but the web depth does not (Umm most of the time), so there needs to be 2 inputs per section for the depth or the depths entered are inside to inside of flanges. Have macros that recognize a built-up member. Most just abort with no explanation but work fine on hot-rolled. Have 2 plates on a haunch connection (ok almost all connections to built-up is 2 plates) with built up. Most of the time the flange is way to thin to accept the connection bolts and transfer the loads. There is a massive bug on the IFC export but you already have that. Please contact me if there are any questions, I can supply samples and of what it needs to be. Of course this would be at my company, other companies have their standards. 🙂

There is a post about .nc files not creating properly the second time, when model is on a network path. "Can't write the NC file...writing file failed" when exporting NC files second time in Advance Steel | Advance Steel 2022 | Autodesk Knowledge Network The command for the example is _AstM4CommCreateNCByStyle 1 which works for us on the network (for v2022) we cannot however run the command _AstM14CommCreateWisconNC. We need to be able to do this, we were able to in version 2019. Is there a fix for this besides drive mapping?

I would like to have an option to export engraving, not just via assembly export, but via a feature. It can either be done via a specific engrave feature, much like the "polygon, UCS" cut feature, or it could be done using a different understanding of features that don't pass all the way through the plate.

In regards to CNC... I have two CNC machines; one for tube and pipe, and one for channel and angel. I use the NC scribing settings in Management Tools. It is great that AS will scribe the outside shape of the single part being welded to the main part. However, it would be even GREATER if AS could also show the orientation of the object... such as a clip angle. If AS could scribe another line to show which side the leg of the clip angle goes on, it could eliminate the need for shop drawings, and/or a skilled craftsman to layout stairs per say. You would just need a competent welder.
