Project Browser Organisation user-based

Project Browser Organisation user-based

Allow the Project Browser Organisation to be setup by user and not by file so that everyone can have their views showing according to their own preference and requirements for the ongoing task.

With the permission of one of the customers, I wanted to present an enhancement request for Revit. An idea came up to allow quick and easy sorting of views, sheets, schedules etc. in Project Browser by using drag and drop option. Additionally, the user wanted to create subcategories like a folders to which they could quickly move views containing a particular object. Currently, is possible can sort and group items by selected property and specify 6 levels of grouping. It is necessary to name views appropriately so that they can be found in the desired folder after the specified parameter.

Hi, @rafal.lewandowski ! Thank you for posting this for our customer! There are a few similar Ideas:

Project Browser Organization - Autodesk Community

Add Subcategories in the Project Browser - Autodesk Community

Project browser agility - Autodesk Community

If you agree, I can combine this post with one or more of the above Ideas.

Thank you for your submission!

Still a very good idea. Frustrating to have to close all categories which I do not want do have open, every morning in big projects. Please fix!

I vote for this! We have an issue with this as well!

In addition to the Browser Organization chosen overriding other's when syncing, if you have collapsed everything and then synced when others sync they will find their Project Browser all collapsed as well.

I'm hoping that the complete overhaul of the Project Browser that is being planned will take this into consideration as well!!!

This is still reducing efficiency for me, working on a large project with many documents.

C'est vrai que c'est un réel problème avec de gros projets ! Pouvoir définir une arborescence par utilisateur serait un vrai plus.

It's crazy how long people have been asking for this and gotten no progress on it. Please make this happen

It's been 7 years since this idea was originally posted and not much happened!

@autodeskwe know you're busy with other stuff but please don't just take our money without putting something back into revit or get us an alternative!

Knock knock... just bringing this idea back to life!
I still think this would be a great feature!

Scenario 1:
In my team, some users prefer to organize the Project Browser by Sheet Types or Purpose, while others prefer a simpler setup — just sorting sheets by Sheet Number for quicker navigation.

Having a way to save and toggle between different browser organization presets (per user) would go a long way in improving flexibility, especially in larger teams with varied workflows.

Hello Revit community! Greetings from Argentina, this is Architect Max Borgogno speaking. I wanted to send you a comment to improve the convenience of using the Project Browser panel. This panel adjusts alphabetically, with some problems when the project becomes massive. Something for convenience that occurred to me and I wanted to suggest is that the drawing, whether it be a floor plan, section, or sheet, can be dragged, something that is not currently allowed, allowing placement for more convenience.

Using the drag method would be fine as long as they fix the issue of the Project Browser being user specific sorting.  There is an idea out there to make the Project Browser user-based.  https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/project-browser-organisation-user-based/idi-p/7493139 There are others that are the same idea also... @kimberly_fuhrman-jones

Also, this idea is already out there: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/a-simple-drag-and-drop-option-in-the-project-browser/idi-...   @kimberly_fuhrman-jones could you add this to that idea or perhaps any other the others that I found that are similar?

Also, I believe a better idea would be to allow multiple sorting options in the Browser Organization set up, it could sort by level, and then type and then name or something like that.  Between the multiple groupings and sortings, you would not have much of a list to go through if mostly collapsed and only the last grouping opened.

Ah, @Ric_Weber, I was just searching this one! Thank you for finding those. I will look at combining them.

Would this idea solve the workset syncing issue where:

Person 1 is in Workset A, and syncs. He closes the project.

Person 2 is in Workset B, and syncs. He closes the project.

Person 1 opens the project and is placed in Workset B. In frustration he changes to Workset A, and syncs.

Person 2 opens the project and is placed in Workset A. In frustration he quits Revit.

Why can't the worksets be set user-specific?

@challstrom, that really has nothing to do with this idea, but it is this idea: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/keep-active-workset-by-user/idi-p/7896269

My Revit projects have multiple worksharing users simultaneously working in different packages of the project.

Within the project browser, each user expands/collapses folders relevant to their workflow.

When we synchronise, all of these expanded/collapsed view subfolders are shared making the project browser messy and obstructing workflow.

Please change the Project Browser expand/collapse settings to user-based instances, rather than shared properties.

This is an unnecessary and cumbersome feature which affects workflow and project legibility, making it messy and difficult to follow.

@kimberly_fuhrman-jones, could you please add this to the https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/project-browser-organisation-user-based/idi-p/7493139 idea.  Thank you!

@jameshowellsLKN7T, please remember to do a search for existing ideas before posting a new idea.  I searched "project browser user" and found it on the first page.  I find that when searching for something using fewer words works better than more. Very generic words and "cave-man-speak" help too.
