Multiple duplicates for views

Multiple duplicates for views

It would be nice if we could select the number of times to duplicate views instead of doing to repeatedly. it would be very routine to do it if we were to do it for more than 20 views. Additionally we can add auto renaming feature and choose a template to apply for them.

When setting up a new project in Revit it can take a large amount of time to create new or duplicate views in the project. If you have a good template set up this will fix this issue but it would be nice to have a tool to quickly duplicate or create new views.

For example if I need to create a number of views for a floor or discipline within the project browser I can only duplicate one view at a time.

So if I have a ground floor plan I need to create five new views, currently I cannot right-click and duplicate five times or select multiple views and duplicate.

In the below screen shoot you can see I have a number views which I created. The only way I could do this was copy a single view and rename.

If I wanted the same views at the next level I would have to do the same. So to have the option to duplicate the views and name them the same a each level you have would be a bonus. This would save a large amount of time.

Another feature would be to also apply any view templates previously set-up so you apply them at the same time.

I think you should find the solution with this plug in : "View duplicator"

I have looked and had something partly developed before but never got it completed.

Isn't this what the Ideas section is all about?

Case apps has a solution ive been using for years. View duplicator. but it seems tricky to acquire these beauties these days.

To be able to specify how many duplicate or dependent views you want to create at one time rather than doing them one at a time would be a great added feature. I also agree that a renaming feature would be nice since all it does now is just add in my opinion "junk" text at the end just so the view name is different from the previous. I'm going through this now in setting up (4) "zones" for shop drawings on each level of my project, each of which has a second copy for a legend. Doing that process for two trades on 35 floors is beginning to become a very labor intensive process. Revit has a lot of nice features over AutoCAD but creating views is a slow process that could use some ways to help improve speed.

The ability select a number of views under a group of views or the ability to right click  the "heading" grouping a number of views and duplicating either the selected views or the "heading" group with all views under this "heading"

If  you do the "heading" option the simple solution could be just place copy after each view name as is when you currently duplicate a view. A better option would be for Revit to intelligently recognise a pattern of the view names being duplicated and automatically rename to the next available number. This might mean those views will need to be associated with the base view (ie under Level 1 there is  the architectural plan(base view), electrical layout, plumbing... duplicating this group of plans for level 2 will need to associate these to the base view of level 2....)
