Revit 2017 Crash on Startup

One of our users has a problem with new installation of Revit 2017. It crashes on startup while still on the splashscreen with the message:

"Autodesk Revit 2017 has stopped working"

The journal (attached) gives some error messages. Unfortunately I can not find what the error is pointing at.

' 1:< DBG_WARN: failed to create message_queue named 'Session8072_P0MasterQueue' because boost::interprocess::intermodule_singleton initialization failed: line 203 of NOBLE\ManageWorkerServices.cpp.
' 1:< Exception occurred

I checked the System Requirement pages.

The user is running windows 10 Home 64 bit. Before investing in other windows version or new computer. So can I assume the cause is Windows 10 Home?

Try replacing the Revit.ini with the out of box file. C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2017\UserDataCache

If that doesn't work, consider reinstalling the Universal C Runtimes.

Thanks for your inputs. Unfortunately problem is not resolved.

@Darin.Green Tried replacing the ini file. Unfortunatley, problem remains.

@TravisNave Looked at the Universal runtimes. Are you pointing me to the right files?

After downloading unpacked the zip file which contained the following files:

CRT.png

When trying to open several of those msu files it says:

"The update is not applicable to your computer"

For your information things I have already done:

-Redownloaded BDSU 2017 from Autodesk.

-Uninstalled all Autodesk software (including previous versions) followed THIS procedure from knowledge to get rid of leftovers

-Reinstalled Revit 2017, same issue.

-Reinstalled Revit 2016, working properly.

@L.Maas, If you right-click the Revit shortcut, do you see the flyout "Run with Graphics Processor"? If so, you'll need to disable optimus using the workflow outlined by @TravisNave. Also, update the graphics card to the latest version from the vendor website.

@Darin.Green

No flyout "Run with Graphics Processor" avaialble.

The computer is not a laptop but a HP, small tower. Graphics card is a NVidea Geforce GTX 650 Ti, with the latest WHQL driver 364.72.

Plenty of free space on the drives.

Temp folder emptied recently.

Windows has the latest updates.

Revit 2016, also cleanly installed a few days ago is working in good order.

Another computer, still on Windows 7, also has a Geforce GTX 650 Ti, has no problem running Revit 2017.

Your error seems to be different from my situation. I would advise to post your issue in a new thread.

Getting a similar issue, but the error in the journal is different:

So far we've replaced the revit.ini, doing a repair, and removing MS XML & onenote printers but so far unsuccessful.

We're going through the .NET system, doing all updates, and if that doesn't help we'll try a .NET repair https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2698555

If that doesn't help we'll do a reinstall next.

Edit to add: updating .NET completely and rebooting (required 3 reboots for all updates) corrected our issue.

Disable your antivirus application then try launching Revit again. This is a big issue with TrendMicro.

Hi

Has anyone been able to solve this start up problem.

I installed Revit 2017 trial version on my office desktop (windows 7 pro) connected to a windows server, revit 2017 installed without any errors. When I click icon the splash screen shows and then after a few seconds it disappears. I did all the usual stuff (repair/ uninstall reinstall etc) but still does has the same issue. FYI, I installed the Revit 2017 trial version on my laptop at home (windows 10) and works just fine.

Just noticed this happening today. Splash screen would load for a few seconds then a notification that the application has stopped would pop up.

Repaired the Microsoft .NET framework 4.6.1, restarted and Revit 2017 is back up. Hope this helps.

Hi, I repaired net framework and also updated to current version but still the same problem. I don't get an error message, splash screen just disappears. Your profile is incomplete. Please try resetting your Revit profile by perform the following:

Navigate and delete the following directories:

  • C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2017
  • C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2017

Open the registry editor (Start > Type REGEDIT hit enter)

Delete the following registry folder:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2017

Hi Darin, first of all, thank you for post and help.

I tried exactly what you suggested, and Revit 2017 did the same thing, crashes when on splash screen, no warning or error message.

I also uninstalled Revit 2017 and reinstalled but still does the same.

The journal file is the same as I posted previously.

Any other ideas how to get this working.

Just read your post, and there was a similar problem in AutoCAD in the past.

There it was a problem with the CascadeInfo.cas file.

The file should located at C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ADLM

Try to backup and then delete the file.

If you restart Revit the file should be recreated.

regards

Markus
