So I have looked around and couldn't find anything on this. I was wondering if someone has ever come across this.

I am in the middle of a drawing and I get a license error and Auto Cad is shutting down error. After the time is up I get the other message.

That means you lost connection to your network license manager or your AutoCAD set idling and when it went back to activate the license again there was no license available.   You should be speaking to the person who manages your Autodesk License Server on the network.  Perhaps your company doesn't have enough license or something is wrong with your license manager.

That is what I thought. I have asked the person that runs the server and they tell me everything is fine.  (Side note this is an IT guy that has never ran a single session of Autodesk software outside of the license management software)

I am looking for some good documentation on how to set up the server so I can pass it along to the IT person and have them read it.

We would need to see the debug log located on the config service tab to see what's going on.  Can you provide it here..

Is this located on the license server or my local pc?

Again thanks for helping this would be a first time I have had to deal with the licensing server.

It's on the server.  Your IT guy should be able to provide it.  It will tell exactly what is going on with the NLM.

Hello @2001jonathon,

Sorry for the confusion and delay. I understand that you need the information to set this up.

A license file first needs to be generated or requested here:

  • In the case where you have combined the license with an existing license file (make sure not to make a mistake check for copy/paste errors)

Note: If you need help Finding Your Host Name and Physical Address

Then, the NLM needs to be installed and set up here:

If you have done all of the above, Start Server Manager Service

  • Locate Lmtools  in C:\Autodesk \Network License Manager (folder)
  • Make sure the current version of Lmtools 11.13.1.2 is installed
  • Verify License File, MAC address & HostID with Lmtools System Settings Tab
  • Config Service Tab > Make sure files are pathed correctly (lmgrd.exe, Lic. File.lic, Debug.log) > Save Service button
  • Start/Stop/Reread Tab > Select FlexNet Service (should only be 1 Autodesk service) > Check Box Force Server Shutdown > Select Stop Server Button > Uncheck Box Force Server Shutdown > Start Server > Server Start Successful. (should appear below)
  • Verify users are pulling licenses

If you have an issue please locate the Config Services Tab > View Log Button

Please attach the results.

Ok I have the logs. Is there anything that I should hide form it before posting it?

You need to open them (usually with notepad) and look for your serial #.  If its there you will see S/N and Product key info on a given line..  However depending on how many times you tried, that information may be throughout your entire log file.

My bad..  Smiley Sad   I was thinking this was a posting about an installation issue and not the debug log file from your network license issue.  There's no personal information in those types of logs.   Attach an unedited debug log file in a reply or just copy/paste it in a reply.

This information is for only today so there's no way of knowing what happened 5 or 6 days ago.   We need the log on the day it happened (but on that info is all gone now)..  Smiley Wink  Have you experienced it again?  If not I wouldn't worry about it unless its a common/daily thing..  You may just had a hiccup in your network and your license couldn't ping the license server at the required time.

Assuming you are

youngj03@USMN-4Y43KC2-L

The log shows you took a license out at 9:34 your time, it got returned 12:37 and a minute later you took it out again.  So it looks like you have a license..  @TravisNave what is your thoughts?

Also another question..  Is your computer connected into a network port or through a VoIP phone?  To me it sounds like you are loosing network connection and thus you can't communicate to the license server at given times.   Are you running via a WIFI connection or hard wired?

I agree with Mark that it is likely a connection drop.  If it were an idle problem then the debug would show (INACTIVE) next to the check-in.  So, basically the connection to the NLM is being lost.

You can increase the wait time with the FLEXLM_TIMEOUT system environment variable.  It might assist in a network latency problem.

If you get this message, you have 6 minutes to diagnose it.  So, try to PING the server and see if you've lost connectivity.  You might also be able to kickstart it with an attempt to borrow.  In fact, borrowing might be a good work-around in the short term.  Smiley Wink

I am hard wired to our network through a docking station. So unless our network is loosing connection to the servers in a different building, I wouldn't guess it is this. Also I have made this change on my pc.

I have done the borrow license, but I was looking to get this fixed. I will try pinging the server to see if it is up and running.
