Problem: During the installation of your Autodesk product, you received a failure summary screen and your installation log shows the following error:
Download Aborted
Install Autodesk® Failed Download Failed, Installation aborted, Result=1603
Subsequent installations yield the same error and you cannot install the product. You can find your installation log file by clicking the link in your installation summary screen (pictured) or by locating it manually in your %TEMP% folder.
Reason: It appears that there is a problem with the Autodesk distribution of software and the remaining downloads during installation are failing. This is most common with materials and image libraries, student, and trial software.
Resolution: Because this problem exists in the Autodesk infrastructure, there is nothing you can do to resolve the issue with the typical installation method. However, you can use an alternate download source to obtain and install your product using the virtual assistant. The virtual assistant does not appear to have the problems associated with the other Autodesk download servers.
To download your software using the virtual assistant, please follow the instructions found on this KB article:
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=21889745&linkID=9240617
You want to download or re-download an Autodesk product.
This method uses our Virtual Agent.
Good Luck!

I have escalated this topic in hopes for an official Autodesk resolution to this server issue. At this time, the virtual assistant download has yielded positive results for anyone experiencing the aborted download issue. Please consult your log file to ensure that this is your issue, or try other methods that I have provided above. Thanks.
Hi, im not exactly sure where to look for a solution i came across this and thought you may be able to help, after i download the installer and run as administrator the installer starts running for about 5 seconds and then i get an error saying network failure and the installation process shuts down, very frustrating as i need to get some of my work done.
Hi Carey and welcome to the Autodesk Community!
Did you follow the steps in the solution above? What were the results? Have you taken any other troubleshooting steps? Please let me know. Thank you!
Hi,
I've been trying to download the free trial of Maya and have been having the exact same issue as decsribed in the above post. However i'm having trouble following the instructions to install through Virtual Agent.
The link provided:http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=21889745&linkID=9240617 is just taking me to the AutoCAD page: http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad
Unless 'm being entirely stupid, which is of course possible I cant find 'Help and support' 'Customer service' or any mention of Ask Autodesk anywhere!
I cannot find the link for 'Download links' anywhere on your site! And installing through the installer has failed 6 times now, and will not work despite disabling firewalls and using different browsers.
I'm due to start a two week online course on the 24th, and Maya is one fo the pieces of software I will need, without it I will not be able to complete any work.
Here's a corrected link for the virtual assistant download:
thank you, the installation MAY be working (fingers crossed). think a petition needs to be started to fire that IT department.
Agreed! Not one of the smartest moves... especially without automatic redirects. Ten years worth of links that I have provided POOF!

Same download error using virtual assistant?
Hi @Anonymous and welcome to the Autodesk Community!
Sorry that you've had so much trouble with the installation but we'll get you through it! First, try this Autodesk Solution to help resolve the Communication Failure error. Typically this error can be resolved by changing your download method, but the article offers more details. For the Source Not Found error, try this Autodesk Solution which tells you that you should just be able to disable your antivirus software during installation and you should be good to go.
However if those two solutions do not resolve the errors you may want to start a fresh installation by performing a clean uninstall of your product and beginning again. After that, please try downloading your product again keeping in mind the solutions above as well as the steps below:
Please let us know how it goes and if you need further assistance. If you have continued issues please reply with details on your product, version, operating system, download method, download location, etc. Thank you!
i am trying to download the student version of 3ds max 2014 64 bit, if i use the virtual agent will that still be ok ?
I tried multiple times to download Inventor LT, would start, leave (since it's 4+ GB) then come back to pc and it would say "network error". Same thing like 10 times even with download manager. Finally, I decided to sit and watch for a while...and it worked and worked..and downloaded while I watched! So for me I wonder if it wasn't my screen saver or something causing it to stop. Just thought that info might help someone.
Hi, I am having trouble installing Revit 2015 for student in my laptop, i tried to download Revit 2014 and 2015 as well, but nothing seems to work. I have attached a photo about my problem. Thank you.
