AutoCAD and Revit 2014 2015 2016 Unexpectedly closed FATAL ERROR at launch

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (updated to SP1), ASUS G750JW (GeForce GTX765M), UEFI mode, dual boot w/ Ubuntu, SSD

I have standalone subscription licenses for the Collection including AutoCAD and Revit 2017 back down to 2014 - purchased through local regional Autodesk vendor

Problem: each product throws a FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0000 Exception at 6b82694bh (the last number will vary)

Note: this happens only AFTER activation; activation has been confirmed for each

Note2: Revit and AutoCAD 2015 and 2016 WORK CORRECTLY IN TRIAL MODE; the crash occurs only subsequent to activation.  2014 doesn't offer the trial mode.

Note3: Although each product has been activated, attempting to launch with internet connection turned off yields the 'Establish an internet connection to continue. The Autodesk license server cannot be...' error popup.  Understandable if the products hadn't yet been activated

Note4: I'm pretty sure I uninstalled Internet Explorer (presumably the v10 that was built-in with windows install) since I use only Chrome and Firefox

Note5: this is a fresh machine

Note6: AutoCAD 2017 works correctly

Solutions attempted:

- reinstallation of Autodesk products

- re-download and reinstallation of Autodesk products

- download using Install Now / Download / Browser Download options where available

- full Autodesk manual uninstallation and reinstallation

- checking FlexNet service running

- wiping adlm flex files from license folder to force reactivation

- updated graphic drivers

- ran Windows updates

- running with /nohardware switch

- un-checked Internet Explorer 11 in Windows Features

- uninstall and re-install of Windows C++ runtime 2005-2012

- uninstall of .NET 4.6.1 down to 4.0, attempt to run @ 4.0, 4.5, 4.5.1; 4.6.1 then reinstalled

- note: BIOS does not offer option to disable the GTX.  The ASUS machines automatically remove the System Agent options from the BIOS menuL

- killing LMU.exe process

- applying the installerR7 and R9 POODLE hotfixes for 2014 and 2015 (both ran successfully, without effect)

- enabling SSL3

- confirmed that I'm signed in under the Autodesk app / Application Manager

- Run as Adminstrator

- rubbing my belly and patting my head

I understand the GTX765M is not officially supported (as opposed to Quadra), but 2015 and 2016 products DID operate successfully in trial mode.  They still do sometimes, in fact, because they appear to forget their successful activations.

Hello marcusbluestudio and welcome to the Autodesk community!

It looks like you're seeing a Fatal Error while opening AutoCAD. Fatal errors often indicate program corruption or a corruption somewhere within the operating system. The following article(s) should help you resolve the problem:

Oh, yeah, already tried running under a new admin account.

No firewall, proxy, or antivirus running.

The solutions on the above link have been attempted.

It's hard to say what is causing this on your older versions.  Generally fatal errors are .NET Framework related though.

Here's a whole laundry list of reasons:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Errors...

Since AutoCAD 2017 is backwards compatible... there's no reason to use the older ones.  Since Revit is not... you probably want to stick with one version or another.

Good Luck!

Thank you. I've checked that pile of laundry, and it's all clean. I need various versions of Revit as a freelancer, as different firms will have different versions in use. I miss AutoCAD 2011, so I could just suck up AC2017 and cry into my keyboard. The Revit issue, however, would remain.

Solved.

An Autodesk technician remotely helped me out by manually un-installing everything Autodesk.  I believe that there were a few tasks he performed which weren't listed in the post describing a full Autodesk un-install.
