Installer: Not enough space on C, even when all temp folders are on D

I have an SSD for my C drive which has less than 5GB free space and I cannot remove anything from it.

All my Temp folders are mapped to be on D drive, yet the installer would not start and still gives me an error saying that I do not have enough space on C. Why does it need 15GB on C drive when I am trying to install on D drive and all my temp folders are on D as well.

Even if the isntaller wants to use temo folders to unpack, this shouldn't be a problem as my temp folders are on D drive where I have 500+GB free space.

Does this mean that I simply cannot install 3dsMax 2016?

Thanks

Hi,

I had already done all of those previously and I only have 7GB free space on my C drive. This is really frustrating that I have to have space on my C drive to install something on my D drive!

I need 15GB on my C drive to install 5GB on my D drive! it just makes no sense.

If you move your temp file over to D:\ as well as any swap files, etc. you should free up enough space.  I listed many different options in my thread, as posted above.  You will need to reboot after doing those changes.

Good Luck!

It seems that am not being clear.

I had previously optimised my C drive as I had run out of space:

1. I run CC cleaner daily
2. I run disc clean up before installing
3. I defrag on a monthly basis
4. All my temp folder are on D drive, have been for a year. I double checked.
5. Hybernation has been off for more than a year and still is.
6. All swap files are on D
7. Some of my appdata is also on D, dynamically linked

After all of this, I had 7GB free. Autodesk chooses to use more than 2GB of that to download files on C and I have no choice.
So now I am left with 5GB.

My question is NOT how to free up space. I am asking how can I get around this idiotic installation requirement?

Why do I need 15 GB on C drive to install 5GB on D drive?

Autodesk have always been somewhat careless and selfish with their installation but this is really pushing the bar high on idiocy.

The only thing I can think of is that it is looking for something on C:\ as a temp space.  Is your profile temp and your Windows temp both moved to D:\ under your system environment variables?

I haven't looked that deep into the setup.ini on drive requirements, but I suspect that requirement can also be modified in that file.  Might be worth a look.
