Autodesk Network License Manager 2018

Well, it's that time again.  Time to update your Autodesk Network License Manager files to the latest and greatest (Autodesk) version... maybe.

Autodesk is again providing version 11.13.1.2 for 2018 products.  There is no change from the 2017 version, even though technically, the latest version of the Flexera License Manager is 11.14.1.0.  Therefore, if you are running another version of the license manager from another 3rd party vendor that uses Flexnet, then you can safely use any newer version like 11.14.1.0 and still use the old 11.13.1.2 version of the adskflex.exe file.

NOTE:  If you have not already updated with the 2017 release, it is required to update to 11.13.1.2 for the 2018 product license to work, otherwise you will get a 0.0.0 error.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-do...

Just like the last couple of years and moving forward, the License Manager files are no longer available for direct download from Flexera.  Per their new policy, you must obtain the license manager from your software vendor.  You can download the Autodesk Network License Manager files here for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/network-license-administration/get-ready-network-lic...

If there are updates to the Autodesk Network License Manager files as the 2018 product line is rolled-out, I will reflect those changes in this thread.

You can update your license file to 2018 versions from your Autodesk Accounts page once your Subscription has been updated.

You can use the online method to activate your license here:

https://register.autodesk.com and from the new Autodesk Accounts page at https://accounts.autodesk.com

Or you can contact your Value-Added Reseller for assistance. You can locate your VAR here:

http://www.autodesk.com/resellers/locate-a-reseller

To update your license file, you will need to provide your serial number and ethernet ID of the new license server.

For a Quick-Start Guide on configuring the Autodesk License Manager, please see my post for further information:

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Installation-Licensing/Quick-Start-Guide-for-Configuring-LMTOOLS/m-p...

Good Luck!

P.S.  If I am lucky, @Otto won't respond to this post this year!  Smiley Very Happy

You are not trying to run to separate Autodesk license files as 2 separate services are you?  This doesn't work.

Your debug.log file does not show that 2018 is available, so I suspect one license file is superseding the other.

You almost certainly have a misconfigured license manager.

The issue is that you swapping in/out license files. When you loaded the 2018 license file in, the user marc.andrew pulled a license for AutoCAD 2018. However, now you've put the 2017 license back in which doesn't have 2018 licenses so the report shows Marc's license as Unsupported

Currently since your license file only includes 2017 licenses, users with 2018 installed will not be able to use their products. You'll need to generate a new license file for your 2018 products which will include 2017, 2016, 2015, & 2014 licenses.

A must do:

Always update your license file to the latest and greatest after new releases, purchases, and when dropping licenses.

Solution:

  1. Generate a new license file with all of your products
  2. Stop the server via LMTOOLS, then close LMTOOLS
  3. Delete the old license from the server
  4. Paste the new license on the server
  5. Within LMTOOLS, on Config Services tab
  6. Change the license file path to look at the new license file
  7. Save Service
  8. On the Start/Stop/Reread tab, click Start Server

Thanks, maybe a bit of context will help. Initially we had license issues before we realised that we needed to set up 2 services. After that everything was running fine, we had capacity spare in the licenses as people were out of the office. I was running AutoCAD2018 when it suddenly denied? me access to the license, I was told the license file was unavailable as you wuld expect if all licenses were being used. I was surprised as my machien is the only one with 2018 installed and we had 2017 licenses available for other users. All attempts to restart 2018 were met with the same error (code 0.0.0) even when only one of our revit suites, seperate .lic file, was in use. I've tried clean uninstall, via Autodesk tool, and install but with no success. All checks on the NLM suggest that both .lic files are being read and that all versions are available. What I can't understand is the random loss of the 2018 license during use. The NLM is installed on our main server with access limited to our IT manager so no-one could have accessed it and made changes. We've tried stopping/restarting and re-reading cycles with the same result, all licenses apear to be available.

My suspicion is that it's a machine based fault, but I wouldn't know where to look.

Hope this helps, anything more you may need please let me know.

Darian,

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I don't have the ability to geneate new licenses from our subscription centre, i suspect that the account manager has issued a single user license for 2018, rather than the combined license we should be using. It sounds like he shouldn't have been given the option in our subscription centre in the first place. Hopefully this will solve it.

Just out of curiosity, why have the ability for multiple services. I only ask as this solution was offered via the Autodesk Knowledge Base, using Maya and Studio Max as examples of multilple licenses from the same vendor. Would these not also be best served as a combine license.

Thanks and regards

Marc

If your Contract Manager generate the license from the Autodesk Account, they should select all of the available products. When the license is generated, all of the licenses would exists in a single license file with all of selected licenses within.

You cannot use multiple services with multiple Autodesk licenses on the same machine. That being said, if happen to generate licenses one by one, then you'll need to copy and paste them into a single license file. Then, that license file would be used for all license request.

Hope that make sense...

Travis,

Is there a way to switch from a network license to a standalone license? Whenever I try to request an activation code for AutoCAD I am asked for my server name and info which leads me to believe that I accidentally set up a network license. I do not want to put my license on the server, instead I would like a stand alone license that can be used by two people non-concurently.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

thank you,

@Anonymous - For future reference, please create a new thread. If you currently own a Single-User License this should help get your application working. Assuming you have a valid serial number/contract.

  1. On your computer, navigate to:
    • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS\<product key>_<<product version>>\
  2. Delete the LGS.data file.
  3. Navigate to
    • C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\
  4. Delete the ADUT folder and it's contents
  5. Start the application.

When you start the application, it will Prompt you to choose one of the following:

  • Login - 30 day trial licenses
  • Serial Number - Standalone and Single-User activations
  • Network - Network License server for obtaining licenses from a machine on your network

Choose the option that matches your license.

NOTE: Students will always use the Serial Number option

In addition to @Darin.Green information..   What type of license do you have?  Meaning if you purchased/subscribe to a network/multi-user license than you can't switch it.  You would have to get a new standalone/single user license.   In addition if this a term based license, you can't have 2 people assigned to a single license unless it is a network/multi-user license.  So please clarify what type of license you have.

@Anonymous,  If you are using 2017 or 2018, then you can do this quite easily now.

You are using the incorrect license manager or LMGRD.exe.  License manager and LMGRD.exe must be version 11.13.1.2.  Your information is showing version 11.12.1.4 (which is the 2016 version)..  Smiley Wink

If you did upgrade the license manager to version 11.13.1.2 make sure the correct LMGRD.exe is being used.  This version 11.13.1.2 changed the default location of where the license manager gets installed but your settings get left over and pointing to the wrong location.

I had installed version 11.13.1.2, and the same happened, I followed a link and they advised that I should install 11.12.1.4, and that apparently would solve the problem

What link advise you to install an older version of the license manager to support newer license syntax that requires version 11.13.1.2?

Have you reviewed this article and its solutions.

When you say the software won't run what error number are you getting on the client?  Your NLM is required to be updated.  If you require a downgrade, then you can only use version 11.7.  I also notice that the protocol in use us IPv6, which is often problematic.  You might want to use IPv4 instead.

Also make sure that your date/time and timezone settings are correct and match the clients as well.

Hi

I tried all that was suggested, but got the same results, as a last resort I switch the firewall off, and it work. I would appear that Microsoft updated the software and all the exception that we had in the firewall was all reset. Thanks for your assistance

Hello,

Can you please tell me the most cost effective solution to track network usage for almost 80 network autodesk/IDSP licenses please?

we will also need Bentley, maybe ensri, maybe Bluebeam in the future.
