Consider the Sequence of design in Revit, namely the sequence of the modeling process. Let me remind you that the basic principle of Revit Design as you build", following which, the basis for the project is Site – the territory that we need to develop with maximum efficiency. At the same time, I advise you to first create it as a separate model and link it to the building model by external reference at common coordinates. Thus, in the future, we solve several problems – we can place other buildings and structures, as well as not interfere with the general planner doing his job. This is especially convenient when designing multi-section residential buildings or neighborhoods.
After the architect has used the Area tools, he creates a preliminary or enlarged planning solution with the calculation of areas, their names and positions, places them on a sheet and receives specifications. This job does not require the performer to have a lot of skills in working with Revit, since mainly lines and editing tools similar to AutoCAD are used. Or we can, using the basic tools of three-dimensional modeling, first build the Conceptual (Mass) shape of the building, divide it Levels into floor planes and get the specifications of areas and volumes – Technical and Economic Indicators (TEP). In this case, the external contour of the building is created in a shape of any complexity, which greatly facilitates the design process.
As a result, the architect without significant effort obtains quite a sufficient result, which he can transfer in the form of a task to the designer for the design of the preliminary Load-bearing frame. I believe that at this stage it is very important to ensure the load-bearing capacity of the building within the intended shape and planning solution. So to speak, to play "checkers" with the constructor so that he does not "break" the big idea of the architect later, when he has already had enough time to work it out. At the same time, Revit together with the load-bearing frame, you can create a Analytical model that can be edited, as well as apply various loads, support forces with subsequent transfer to the Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis for calculation.
As a result, the architect receives an almost agreed frame, can make appropriate changes in the layout, as well as the conceptual form, and begin to create the Facade – the appearance of the building, which will become its face and business card in the future. Of course, in the course of its design, there may be many adjustments, approvals, etc., but there will be slightly fewer changes, unlike the cases when an almost full-fledged architectural model is initially created. After the structural solution of the façade is completed, you can begin the process of Rendering of the building and the selection of its color scheme. This can be done both in Revit and in other applications such as 3DS Max.
In addition, the architect will already be able to place Rooms and get at this stage a net area of floors, taking into account only load-bearing and external enclosing structures. After all, sometimes the customer wants to know this particular area without taking into account the internal walls and partitions, which can then be created on the basis of the existing enlarged layout Areas. Thus, we significantly save time, because the preliminary floor plans have long been determined and agreed, and now they will only need to be clarified and coordinated. At the same time, the architect, if necessary, will be able to offer the customer clean areas of offices, apartments, etc., at any time. And of course, after that, he will finalize the final version of the planning decision and even in several versions.
If you ask — there is a general planner, architect, designer, and where are the engineers? I think that, unlike all others, they should constantly accompany all stages of design, because to a greater extent, the comfort and health of people of the building that is operated will depend on them. Including energy efficiency throughout its entire life cycle, which is: costs for ventilation and heating, water supply and sewerage, electricity and automation, etc. Unfortunately, I don't have enough personal experience in this part of the design yet, so this will end the consideration of Sequence and Management of the modeling process in the next post.
