This tutorial walks you through the process of modelling the Airbus A380 using advanced surface modelling techniques. If you are new to surface modelling, you could start here; however, basic mastery of the design workflows in the design workspace is critical and will give you an edge.

By the end of this project, you will have learnt:
- How to organise your projects into folders to reduce clutter in your design workspace
- How to import and place reference images into your designs(canvases), which serve as a visual guide when replicating real-world objects. Canvases provide a template for creating accurate sketches when users find it challenging to start from scratch, saving time in return, rather than iterating through trial and error.
- How to calibrate your canvas images to ensure the sketch geometry/entities generated from tracing canvas outlines match the intended real-world dimensions after scaling. This is critical for downstream reverse-engineering processes.
- How to do 2D sketching. This is the basis for nearly all 3D models.
- How to apply 2D constraints to sketch entities to lock them in place. This ensures our models update predictably when changes are made in the respective sketches. Unconstrained sketch entities/geometries can cause our models to “explode” when changes occur unintentionally during the design phase/process.
- How to use the surface modelling tools available in Autodesk Fusion
- How to track and organise relevant surface bodies to ensure we have the correct surface bodies as our output. More often than not, surface modelling demands that we create helper surface bodies. Helper surfaces are auxiliary surfaces used to aid in the creation of complex surfaces, but are generally not needed in the final design/model.
- How to create work features (work planes and work points) at non-standard angles and orientations to better define precise placement of sketch profiles, which ultimately define our model.
- How to blend solid and surface modelling tools in your designs to leverage the strengths of both of them.
- How to work with sub-assemblies in Autodesk Fusion
- How to create custom appearances in Autodesk Fusion
