Hello, I would like to see the 2025 Spec-Editor back. In the current version, I am missing feedback on whether the catalog or the pipe class has been saved. In addition, the component filtering is no longer as nice as before. I can only filter one column. And in the German version, the handling of decimal separators is unfortunately quite buggy. Dear Autodesk Team, Please consider improving the performance of the PLANTREFRESHACQPROPERTY command for SQL Server-based projects. Currently, for P&ID drawings in SQL Server projects, this command takes a minimum of 5 minutes per drawing to execute. If this can be optimized to run within 1 minute, it would add significant value to AutoCAD Plant 3D. At present, users are forced to remain idle during execution, which is not acceptable in any organization. We understand that implementing this fix may require changes to the core program of AutoCAD Plant 3D. However, given the advancements in technology, we believe there are opportunities to improve this process. Please consider addressing this in the next version or as part of a bug fix. It is widely used practice to make the insulation transparent in Federated model. When Plant 3D dwg model is federated using ACC Model coordination this is not possible, since ACC cannot read transparency from the original file for some reason. Please add this option. Show More

In other software solutions, there is a very useful feature that allows users to create several drawings at once. Users can specify the number of drawings and their discipline (e.g., INS for Installation). For instance, if 10 drawings are needed, the system automatically generates them as INS-0001, INS-0002, ..., INS-0010. This streamlined process is a considerable time-saver for project teams. In our firm, it is common practice to create individual drawings for different floors or areas within a project. Introducing a "Create Multiple DWGs" feature in Plant 3D would vastly improve our workflow, enabling a project manager or user to generate multiple drawings at once. This function would greatly facilitate the assignment of drawings for specific floors or areas to different team members. Additionally, it ensures coherent and sequential numbering of drawings, thereby maintaining organization and consistency throughout the project. This feature would bring several benefits: Efficiency: Rapidly creating multiple drawings with automatic numbering saves time and effort. Consistency: Ensures drawings are number-sequenced, aiding in better organization. Project Management: Simplifies the task of assigning drawings to various team members, improving coordination and project tracking. The Plant 3d Spec Editor has not been updated in the 10 years that I've been using it.   It needs a complete overhaul.    1) Catalog editor - Custom properties should be able to be added easily across component types and part categories. 2) In the Spec editor we should be able to search and filter by any data field in the component Catalogs, as well as customise and save our default search settings within the UI. (including all port data) 3) Ability to customise the fields in the Advanced Editing Table. (including all port data) 4) "Find in Catalog" button to Actually find in Catalog editor UI. 5) Ability to Split Spec and Catalog Editors on Different windows / screens. 6) Ability to split the Advanced Editing Table onto Different window / screen.    Regarding 1,2,3) The current UI restricts us to only 12 field columns.  Size Range Long Description (Family) Short Description Material Material Code End Type Facing Pressure Class Schedule Design Std Design Pressure Factor Manufacturer If we go to the trouble of adding "Flange Std" data to every valve or flange in our catalogs, when we want to add particular components to the spec we are unable search or filter by the "Flange Std" in the spec editor UI to differentiate them and bring them into the spec.  This simple limitation is forcing P3D administrators to put multiple fields of data into the 12 searchable fields above. OR if they see the fundamental problem with putting multiple data into single data fields, they may not bother to fill in the Flange Std data in the first place.    Either way, the end result is Plant 3d BIM data being either corrupted or lacking detail, simply because of the users requirement to work around the software's limitations and restrictions.  Whether Plant 3d users acknowledge this or not. I see an overhaul of the Spec Editor as fundamental and extremely important for the future of Plant 3d. Why?  Because the world is moving at light speed towards connected data. In order to connect data to other data it needs to... a) Exist b) Be consistent. c) Be Clean   If Autodesk keep preventing their customers from achieving these fundamental data requirements, simply because they don't want to spend any money improving something that hasn't been updated for more than 10 years,  I have no doubt Autocad Plant 3d Software will be overtaken by competition very soon.    Show More

Hello,   In P&ID, the 'nearest' snap will always toggle-on when moving and stretching SLINEs. I've attached a short clip that shows how even with OSNAP turned off, and all snap modes disabled, 'nearest' will still automatically enable whenever using an SLINE grip, MOVE, STRETCH, ROTATE, etc. are used. Plant will obey all other snap modes, and leave them off while performing commands. 'Nearest' is the only one that persistently enables itself.   Our P&IDs are drafted on a grid, so I rarely use snaps for them. If I did use snaps in P&ID, it would not be 'nearest'. End, Mid, Cen, Int, Qua, etc. are the go-tos. Additionally, when Nea is enabled, it is objectively more difficult to hit those everyday snap modes. That being the case, it is cumbersome to deal with the persistent 'nearest' snap always forcing itself to the surface.   I understand this feature may be a sort of topology-assist mode, but I respectfully request that a system variable be created (perhaps like the one in the title) that allows for this feature to be toggled-off. Currently when an equipment item is selected in Navisworks, the entire equipment item is selected including the associated nozzles. The nozzles on the equipment item cannot be individually selected.   In some cases only the nozzle needs to be selected to quickly see perhaps the nozzle tag or just the properties on the nozzle. Just knowing the selected nozzle tag is helpful when identifying what it is connecting to in the connecting pipe line run.   Would like to see in the future that Plant 3D equipment nozzles can be selected individually. The feature should be represented accurately in both the 3D model and generated pipe isometric drawings, reducing manual drafting effort and improving construction documentation quality.   Business Need: Current insulation workflows in Plant 3D are generally focused on applying insulation attributes to complete pipe segments. In real-world facilities, insulation frequently starts and stops at specific locations due to: Support locations Instrument connections Flange access requirements Steam tracing terminations Equipment nozzle interfaces Heat conservation requirements Maintenance access zones Regulatory or client-specific insulation standards Designers currently must rely on workarounds such as splitting pipe segments into multiple pieces, adding manual annotations, or performing post-processing edits on isometric drawings. These methods increase modeling effort and create opportunities for inconsistencies between the 3D model and issued drawings.   Proposed Functionality: Placement Along Pipe Runs Methods: Place at specified distance from endpoint Snap to components Place between two selected points Place via grip editing Place via property palette input This would maintain the continuity of the piping model while supporting insulation detailing requirements.   Expected Benefits: Improved Modeling Efficiency Eliminates the need to split piping solely for insulation representation. The ability to create a shared selection list is a step in the right direction, but we need the ability to convert and/or merge existing lists to a shared selection list. To delete an existing list that is used in multiple classes is almost impossible so you can't delete one and then create a new one. We need to take a list like Services(P&ID) and Services(P3D) and convert & merge them in to a single shared selection list. Show More

The idea came from this forum post: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-plant-3d-forum/ask-to-replace-tag/m-p/13209722#M72461 Sometimes when I assign a TAG, it asks me to choose another one or give the TAG to this piece of equipement. That is good, but rare.   But otherwise it just displaying an error saying the tag is already used, which is a very limiting way of showing this data. You don't know which is the other component. A dialog box could open up here to let you fix the scenario.   There are basically three scenario's The tag of the original component is correct, you change the tag for the current component The tag of the original component is wrong, you change the tag for the original component and can then confirm the chosen tag for the current component. The tag is not used by a component and only exists in the database tag registry. You have to clean up the database. I think it would make the software more user friendly and make it feel more powerful if you had an interface or dialog box at that point that allowed you to edit both tags. It would allow you to change the existing component's tag and continuing with yours, but it would also help with catching erronuous tags in existing components and general understanding of a project if you can actually see which component has the conflicting tag. I can see a lot of *Oooh, Right ...* kind of moments to be had. There's also the case where a tag can exist in the PnPTagRegistries table of the processpower database after Plant 3D experienced a crash, but there is no actual component with that tag in the database. It will cause the above error, but if you don't know what's happening it can be hell to figure out how to fix it.  The dialog box would be able to check and see that the tag only exists in the tag registry but has no component linked to it and would give the user the option to either remove it from the registry, or reassign it to the current component or pick an untagged component of the same class to link it to. Users would like the option to create a new folder directly within the Vault dialog when creating a new project. Currently, you have to open Vault and create the folder before you can use it for the Plant3D project. Furthermore, it would be desirable for the "Open" button to be active as soon as you select a folder from the tree (left side of the Vault dialog). Both of these points would significantly improve usability for both customers and administrators.   Show More

Every time I open Plant 3D, it opens the project I was last using, even if I closed the project prior to shutting down. This is a terrible UX, as many projects I work with are very large Collaboration projects. Once I start P3D it takes many minutes to refresh and connect, and I have to wait until it's done, even though typically I don't want to be in that project at all.   I would prefer to be able to set Plant 3D to start up with no project loaded into Project Manager, and then choose which project to open. Hi The time to update the Ortho View is very slow and tedious. If I need to update 50 Orthographic Drawing or more with many Ortho View in it it will take a lot of time (few days). There is no batch or background process. I need to do manual for each Ortho View. We would like to update all Orthographic Drawing from the whole Plant 3D Project!   It would be nice if I could select the Orthographic Drawing and run update all Ortho View. As in Civil 3D, Plant 3D should use the Shared Reference Point Tool to help the integration with Navisworks, Revit and Civil 3D. As such, it could unify the Isometric and Orthographics coodination system. Show More

Calculated Properties are a great addition to the Projects, but we could use the same type of functionality in the Spec Editor as well.   For instance, the ability to create a calculated property named ActuatorAbbr where we could filter out the word "Hand" from the ActuatorType and just have the word Lever, or Wheel assigned to ActuatorAbbr. Then use the ActuatorAbbr property in the Family and Size Descriptions instead of the ActuatorType property. It would enable a quick and easy method for streamlining the standard descriptions in the spec without having to customize the actual catalogs. Show More

I believe that having the capability to add folders within the Spec Sheet would be very beneficial to sorting, navigating, and finding components. Currently, our Specs have a lot of components and is tedious to find components. If the folders can collapse and expand, that would be a great feature. Adjust font size would also allow the Spec Sheet Viewer to be smaller. Show More
