Current insulation workflows in Plant 3D are generally focused on applying insulation attributes to complete pipe segments. In real-world facilities, insulation frequently starts and stops at specific locations due to:

  • Support locations
  • Instrument connections
  • Flange access requirements
  • Steam tracing terminations
  • Equipment nozzle interfaces
  • Heat conservation requirements
  • Maintenance access zones
  • Regulatory or client-specific insulation standards

Designers currently must rely on workarounds such as splitting pipe segments into multiple pieces, adding manual annotations, or performing post-processing edits on isometric drawings.
