Yes, this creates a file with the extension of .IFC, but this is not only an uncertified unverified IFC creation process, it contains absolutely no definitions. This is due to the EXPORTTOAUTOCAD fuction making the model into a "dumb block".
The IFC export facility is slowly being integrated into each of the Autodesk products, this is now an urgent requirement of the Plant 3D package if it intends to form part of the BIM integration process.
In this particular instance the BEP calls for the 3D design co-ordination exchange form at to be RVT / IFC. With data validation being provided by Solibri model checker in IFC format. Both programs are certified to IFC2x3.
Is it possible to Integrate Plant 3D (P&ID) with any Process simulators?
I have generated some process models in Process Simulator (say in AspenTech / ProSim) and I would like to export the entire model to plant 3D P&ID so that i can auto export all the blocks and all the assigned parameters (like temperature, flow, medium) into Plant 3D P&ID attributes. Please let me know about the feasibility.
I agree that Plant 3D lacking the ability to translate to IFC is a problem for the construction industry. If BIM is the future for construction like Autodesk has implied since Revit came out in 2008, why are you now arguing that you can not even comply with the basic functionality of a BIM software by exporting out to IFC? Is Plant 3D not considered BIM? Perhaps this might be where the confusion is coming from. Please see link to GSA's website for guidelines for BIM Software:
