When advance steel creates nc data with scribing it will not seperate same fittings across different assemblies, for instance I have a straight pfc member with several stiffeners or web side plates welded to it, the pfc is the same part number across 10 different assemblies but because of the stiffeners and cleats it should have different scribing nc data for every different instance. I would like to see .nc data displayed in the model browser. We can set a column for drawing numbers for parts (single parts.....main part does not show a drawing number, just the attached parts). We create .nc files for certain plates... would give us a visual check that no plates were missed.     Show More

This has come from a customer of ours What they require is an NC file for plates, they want the outline etching of attached parts in NC files, but they dont want the text for the attached parts   There is an option in Management Defaults for "Text for attached objects in NC" we have tried to fudge this by setting the value to "%" (its not possible to have it blank)   If we set the value to "%" the NC file does run but there is still a line in the NC file for the SI block. I would like the option to either: A:  Convert Flat Bar into Plate in Advance steel. or B: Option to treat Flat Bar like Plate. For Naming and DXF output. (refactoring is painful - or could just be my lack of experience in this area - this is very easy in Tekla, is just one option and all flat bars are called Plates - but are still flat bars)  Flat Bars have certain advantages in modeling for efficiency and easy size changes etc but when it comes to BOM and DXF output these are far from Ideal. Flat Bars need an option for single side DXF output as per plates. (or would work if treated as plates) at the moment we are having to open every DXF file and delete everything but the front view which is painful and time-consuming. The vast majority of our fabricators cut plates from DXF files and do not use Flat Bars. Show More

The production people require that the folded plates in the DSTV-NC file be rotated so that the bend line is perpendicular to the X direction. This is because they are usually made from sheet that is only rolled in 1 direction. For strength reasons it is good to have the bend line perpendicular to the bending direction. If there are multiple bends, try to rotate the sheet so that the bend lines are perpendicular to the grain as much as possible (for example, 45° and 45° (between the grain of the sheet and the bend line)). Management Tools currently only has one option to set the "Expansion Method For Unfolding".  This sets the method for all items including plates, formed beams, and circular profiles.  It would be great to have another setting that could set the "Expansion Method For Unfolding" for circular profiles to a different setting than folded plates/beams.  The reason behind this is that when forming plates/beams we use "Expansion By DIN".  However, when creating NC files for round materials our CNC profiling machine requires the setting "By Outer Contours".  Currently we need to switch back  and forth between the settings using the Management Tools.  If a user forgets to switch before creating circular part NC files or when creating drawings/dxf files for plates the parts come out wrong. Dear Advance Steel Dev Team,   Very often it happen, for steel structures with pipes, that we have to give to the producer an ACIS file, that have to be "read" by the laser cut machine. This file have to be saved with the position name of the single part and have to include only the single part.   Now I do it in this way: using the "_wblock" command I save the single part with its name as acad block, then I open it and use the Advance command to explode to ACIS each single file.   It could be a very useful tool if we have the option to export as acis file all the selected parts, automatically saving each single part separately with filename identical to the single part position name.     Hope to see this idea in the next releases of Advance Steel, cheers. In the stringer elements, allow for stringer to be made from plate element, in addition to the standard flat section. So stair suppliers, profile from sheet of plate on profiler/laser. This is like the welded tapered beam, it has opitions for both types. Show More

I am surprised this has not already been addressed, but when the direction of the part produced with the DSTV file does not match the direction as shown on the shop detail it causes our shop a lot headache. I do my best to model beams the correct direction but on larger projects and those with skewed beams it is difficult to keep track of how any particular beam was created and there is nothing (to my knowledge) in the model that tells me the direction the DSTV is produced. It would be very helpful to not have to deal with this. To feed our machines the dstv files I have to review each file in another program and rotate as needed. This time consuming process. Curious if this will be addressed by Autodesk and how other shops deal with this.        Show More

AS we have Scibing/ powder marking,  this option is available under the MT Defaults and activated in there,  options exist to allow for partial line at attachment object corners.   The output is in the PU bloc of the NC Code and notates the poweder mark as a line element with co-ordinates to form an L Shape at attachment corner, if set to partial line.   for some NC  machines Scribe option is not availalble, they only have option to punch mark , this is normally performed with a drill spotting the location of the realtive mark required.    There are Punch marks in AS, they are under the Hole  types, change from hole to Center mark,  this places a mark in the model and you can use hole group placments to manually place these in the model at part attachment locations,  mostly manually, some jonit have these options.    If there was an option to place punch marks at attachment poiints  , like the powder marking does, then  automatically these points would be created, then placed in the BO/KO Bloc for NC, so it can be controlled for spotting with a drill at a single point.    At present i can find option to change the bloc from PU to KO, but this still leaves the Corordinates for the line marking, thus casueing the NC machine to drill a series of spot marks with the drill head.    So the Idea is to have MT Default option to create a punch mark at attachment corner point automatically, to give a single desiginated point by co-ordrinates and define this as a Center Mark in the NC File code to spot drill to mimiumn defined size.             Show More

The setting "Use the unfolded beam name as profile code in NC files header" should exclude folded beams when deactivated. Currently, it is applied for both tubes and folded beams. The request is to not apply for folded beam elements, to still get the unfolded shape in NC/DXF for folded beams when the setting is deactivated.   Thank you Show More

Hello,   We want to use scribing on our new machine. On the mainparts we can only scribe on the top, bottom flenge  or on the web of the section. What we like to see is that there is an option when there is a plate welded to the side of the flenge that we can turn on scribing on top or bottom of the section for width of the attached plates and or/holes in the plates. We know that Tekla now has extra modules to do that afterwards. This is a huge advantage for them on Advance steel we think. There is so much time and efficiency to be gained from this option. When using a label on a beam, we do have some info of the beam dimensions avaliable to us. Web Thickness, Flange Thickness and others. With a group of holes, you can show the gage (2 3/4, 3 1/2.....) but at any other time the gage is not available to you. Please add this info per AISC gages for all sections to be used at any time on labels, assembly titles, title blocks, BOMs, external lists and anything else that uses tokens. Show More

We need the ability to choose symmetry for creating the NC files.  Right now Advance will only create NC files referencing holes from the flange edge.  Top flange holes need to be referenced from the web center line.  By code the web can be off center by 6mm.  If you have connections bolting both the beam web and flange at the column, it will not fit.  This is a high priority item as we have have had to fix many beam holes because of the way the NC creates the hole location.   Show More
