Convert Flat Bar into Plate (Or option to treat flat bar as plate) and DXF output options

I would like the option to either:

A:  Convert Flat Bar into Plate in Advance steel.

or

B: Option to treat Flat Bar like Plate. For Naming and DXF output. (refactoring is painful - or could just be my lack of experience in this area - this is very easy in Tekla, is just one option and all flat bars are called Plates - but are still flat bars)

Flat Bars have certain advantages in modeling for efficiency and easy size changes etc but when it comes to BOM and DXF output these are far from Ideal.

Flat Bars need an option for single side DXF output as per plates. (or would work if treated as plates) at the moment we are having to open every DXF file and delete everything but the front view which is painful and time-consuming.

The vast majority of our fabricators cut plates from DXF files and do not use Flat Bars.

Sorry for being a bit rough but to create an idea just because of a lack of knowledge is not really bring us to target.

This is already working if you use the Mapping in Advance Steel. therefore the mapping database had to be correct, but if you use the forum search you will find many threads belonging to this option

Hi @Sebastian_Eiche , please correct me if I am wrong but this only effects the naming of the flat bar and doesn’t fix any of the mentioned DXF output issues? I have searched the forums and have found quite a few posts relating to the mapping of Plate to Flat bar sizes but not the other way round. There are also quite a few posts about the mentioned DXF output issues.
I am happy to be wrong and be pointed to a solution and removing the idea, but I haven’t as yet found one, hence the Idea.

the problem of mapping is to change the name (which is used for the nc files too).
It worked in both ways:

  • if a flat have the name 100X10 --> us a plate thickness 10 and width 100
  • the other way would be_ if a plate have a name pl10x100 use a flat 100X10

But your're right, it's not perfect
